Doomed Confessionary: Luca, Frik & Enrico (Ikitan)

Ikitan is a post-rock trio from Genoa, Italy. The band has just released their debut full-length album »Shaping The Chaos« on March 7th, 2025 through Taxi Driver Records. Recorded between 2021 and 2025, the album is inspired by inexplicable phenomena or weird places from planet Earth.

»Shaping The Chaos« encapsulates the last four years of the band’s life and the conflicting emotions that led to its making. Even though it is very different from the debut EP »Twenty-Twenty«, it shares the same emotional and instrumental philosophy.

If »Twenty-Twenty« featured a single track or, better a musical journey, lasting 20 minutes and 20 seconds, »Shaping The Chaos« includes nine self-contained songs, each one inspired by our planet.

Ikitan consists of Luca Nasciuti (guitars), Frik Et (bass) and Enrico Meloni (drums).

Can you please say a few words about your band?
We’re Ikitan, a heavy post-rock trio from Genoa, Italy. We like a lot of different music and this is reflected in our sound, a particular blend of heavy metal, prog, stoner, post-rock and alternative music – all of this with no vocals. Dreamy guitar lines, a punchy bass and solid drums are all we need!

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
The biggest challenge was being able to put the final touches to »Shaping The Chaos«, our latest release. Considering the whole process took us 4 years, there were times when we could not see the light at the end of the tunnel as time kept passing between sessions and meetings. Luckily at the beginning of this year we got a rush of enthusiasm and put it all together. We’re extremely proud of the final result.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Guess? Our latest album! As mentioned above, »Shaping The Chaos« is the result of a long journey and a big effort in “shaping” our musical ideas in every detail of the whole production process. So we’re really happy with the final result and now we’re focused on the promotion of the album and soon, hopefully, on the production of a live show.

What was your biggest regret?
Like every band, our wish is to play live as much as possible but both for lack of live club or festivals and our personal difficulties it’s very hard for us. So sadly that we can’t play live as much as we would like.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We’ve played live just a few times – a lucky band that formed just before Covid – and probably the best experience has been filming »Twenty-Twenty Live at Geremia«, where we’ve played our first release »Twenty-Twenty« in a stunning location on top of a mountain in the middle of the Covid lockdown. Check it out on YouTube!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
We’re living in an era in which new music comes out at every eye blink and it’s very easy to reach out. In this scenario, we often step in good artists, even by chance. Bicurios from Ireland is the band that made the longest lasting impression so far.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
In Flames, the last from Cradle Of Filth, Slomosa, My Sleeping Karma, Children Of Bodom, Fabrizio De Andrè (a songwriter from Genoa, our city) to name but few.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Luca: Never quit. A guitar will always be there waiting to be played.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Luca: More guitars.

Frik: More bass intros.

Enrico: More cowbell.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Genoa?
There’s a lot going on and for all tastes! Thanks to a few music labels, shops and organizations the music scene in Genoa is very active and there is something for all tastes.

Check out fellow rockers Isaak, Il Segno Del Comando, Hellgo, Gotho, Bustermoon, Fungus…

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Luca: We’re having some requests here and there in our surroundings and maybe we’ll have a gig soon. Hopefully we will release videos of the concert.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Right now we’re focusing on the promotion of »Shaping The Chaos« and we’ll see what the future brings us 🙂

How can people best support your band?
Luca: Listen to our music, contact us and tell us what you feel, like or dislike about our music!

And if you wish to buy CDs, vinyl, cassette tapes, t-shirts… that would not hurt! 🙂
