Can you say a few words about your band?
Marco: Heavy/doom metal band from Mexico City, our music blends feelings like melancholy, loneliness, darkness, and spirituality. Devil’s Flesh is reflections from a dark world “From Illusions into Flesh”.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Marco: I’d say finding a sound has been complicated (it’s still difficult), personally I have a lot of influences in music and not all of them are metal, I wanted to make heavy metal music having in mind different kinds of textures and feelings.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Marco: We’ve been doing what we like, we decided to make music for ourselves first, and then share it with the world. It’s hard not to worry about what people will think about the music, but in the end, what really matters is to make art for yourself and enjoy the process even though it’s not the classic trendy metal sound.
What was your biggest regret?
Marco: Paying for playing in shows. That’s definitely something I regret!! That’s fucking ridiculous!
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Marco: We don’t have shows very often because of our jobs, we don’t have the time enough… but playing in a place called Oaxaca here in Mexico was a great experience, great show, great people, great everything!
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Marco: Back in 2018 I only wanted to make some songs and maybe put them on YouTube later, I recorded a demo and then a few songs we sent to a label here in Mexico, honestly, I didn’t even expect a response, but they answered saying they wanted to work with us and release an album in CD.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Marco: Alcest – »Améthyste«, Cauldron – »Hold Your Fire«, Katatonia – »For My Demons«.
Samuel: Lock Hart (Can) – »No Chance In Heaven«.
Alan: Altareth – »Passage – The Welfare Sessions«.
Víctor: Hyperdontia – »Snakes Of Innards«, Hyena – »About Rock And Roll«, Obscura – »Anticosmic Overland«.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Marco: Music is a therapy, gotta take it as something is gonna help you and heal you, don’t take music as a business. Have fun.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Jajaja, here are some of the answers from the band:
Marco: Lana del Rey, French stuff like La Femme, The Do, Juniore.
Sam: Troy, Gabriella – »Breaking Free«.
Alan: Shakira, Paulina Rubio.
Víctor: Akwid, Zona Ganjah.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Mexico City?
Unfortunately, regardless of the music quality, a band needs to find the “right people”, have a promotor friend, a famous friend… stuff like that… for a band, is very difficult to promote their music by themselves, money is very important as well, music is in the third place. Concerts are also complicated… lately, we have seen how many of them get cancelled because people don’t assist the shows of young bands, it’s funny how there’s an underground in the underground scene. But in the end, Mexican metal is awesome! There are a lot of great bands!
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Marco: Some shows in here in Mexico, we hope we can play in another country soon, that’s something difficult af! But we hope we can do it soon.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Marco: We’re currently working on our second album, we hope we’ll release it in 2026, we’re doing something bigger, I’d say really good stuff… But in long term, keep doing what we like, that’s all.
How can people best support your band?
Marco: Sharing our work is always the best way to help! I’d say that’s what really matters.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Marco: Thank you for all the support so far! Thanks to those who have paid for our music and have bought our physical releases. Thanks a lot for being with us, we love you!
