Doomed Confessionary: Mauricio R. Castillo (Sacrvs)

Sacrvs formed in 2021 in Coyhaique in the south of Chile. They play traditional doom and describe their music as “the essence of eternal tragedy, the hopelessness of being, and resignation to an incomprehensible emptiness.”

In June 2024, Sacrvs released their first demo »Penumbra« in CD format, also available on all major streaming platforms.

Sacrvs are Jorge Soto Barrientos (vocals), Luis Rodolfo Barceló Veas (bass, guitar, backing vocals) and Mauricio R. Castillo Pizarro (drums).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Sacrvs began as a project between Jorge and Mauro, we already knew each other from different projects, after a period of silence, fate took charge of conspiring to reunite us under the doom’s devotion.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
I think that the biggest challenge for Sacrvs was the particular style of doom that we are doing, it is different in many ways from the great exponents that we have in Chile, the influences are undeniable, however it is still a different style.

What can you be most proud of so far?
The progress we have had in a short time, with many difficulties but moving forward.

What was your biggest regret?
There is no regret, only learning.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
“Sonidos Urbanos” in Coyhaique, the best sound achieved to date.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The support we have received both in Chile and outside the country, we are not working with any label yet, but we have received a lot of support from doom lovers.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
In my case, I was inactive for a few years, some time ago I played black metal and punk, this new project forced me to start over with the drums, gradually advancing with slow compositions.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Perseverance and effort surpasses talent.”

What are your guilty pleasures?
Everything related to altered states of consciousness, and excesses in general.

Can you say something more about current music scene in Coyhaique / Patagonia?
Coyhaique is a small city located in the extreme south of Chile, directly in Patagonia, despite the geographical limitation and other factors, the local scene has always stood out so that black noise exists, in all possible formats, even forming part and recognition of a great national scene

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
So far, we only have local shows in our city before the end of the year, we will have 2 or 3 dates.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We have quite a few plans, but for now we are working on new songs, in addition to working on the release of the next demo or EP.

How can people best support your band?
First understanding the message and the essence that we want to convey, and obviously buying material, attending events, etc.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Just let the slow noise enter your senses, and let the breezes of the dead waves carry your souls to their destination.
