DIMM is a three-piece post-rock band from Lahti, Finland.
A proud ambassador of instrumental music, whose wordless expression invites listeners to interpret the songs through their own senses and emotions. The band’s soundscape effortlessly shifts from airy to gritty, maintaining a subtle progressive edge.
DIMM’s highly anticipated debut album will see the light of day in early 2025 via 918 Records. Recorded at Teatteri Vanha Juko, December 2024. Mixed by Leo Lehtonen. Mastered by Magnus Lindberg.
DIMM are Joel Hautala on drums, Leo Lehtonen on bass an Miikka Kärkkäinen on guitar.
Can you say a few words about your band?
We are DIMM, an instrumental post-rock trio from Finland. After trial and error, we found that being an instrumental group is the most natural way for us to express ourselves. Our soundscape shifts from airy to gritty, maintaining a subtle progressive edge.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
The agony of creation. How to be honest with oneself while also respecting the perspectives of others. Also, time – how to find enough time to invest in relation to our goals.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Our upcoming album is an achievement we are the most proud of so far. Even though we have chosen to do music in a marginal genre, this release reflects well what kind of music we genuinely want to play.
What was your biggest regret?
No regrets.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Last spring’s tour in the Baltics was great. Seven guys + full gear stuffed in a minibus = sweat, beer and burgers. A recipe for good memories.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
So far, things haven’t been very surprising for us. People in this field are just people, for better or worse. There’s nothing magical about it.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Mk.Gee – Two Star & the Dream Police
ROME – Masse Mensch Material
Meshuggah – Immutable
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Don’t go to the stage too early. Trust your own music. The sound is on the fingertips.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Band practice cigarettes. Man crush for Peter Steele.
Can you say something more about current music scene in Lahti / Finland?
Sadly, it is hard to book gigs and a decreasing number of opportunities for emerging bands.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Hopefully in many places domestically. We are about to start booking as the new album is being released. Also it’s in our scope to do another tour in the Baltics later this year.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Keep the momentum up. Do more music to promote more gigs.
How can people best support your band?
Staying tuned for our upcoming album and coming to see us live. Spread the word if you like what you hear.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks for all the love and support. Hope to see you soon, wherever it might be!
