Doomed Confessionary: Misbah, Dandi, Arby & Shina (The Broken Heroes)

The Broken Heroes is a heavy rock quartet hailing from East Java, Indonesia.

The band released their debut album »Whoreshiper« on December 15th, 2023, available now on all streaming platforms.

Can you say a few words about your band?
We are heavy rock band from small city called Jombang in Indonesia. The band consists of Misbah (guitar + vocals), Dandi (drums), Arby (guitar) and Shina (bass). We formed in September 2021 with the spirit of having fun, playing everything we want in many gigs held by our local music scene community. Until we decided to take the project more serious by writing our own material that end up into our debut album titled »Whoreshiper« and released it in December 2023. We are influenced by many great band from 70s like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and also blues music in that era, we like some modern stoner/heavy rock/metal too like Kyuss, Siena Root, Monolord, OM, Earthless, Kadavar, Uncle Acid, etc.

What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
We are well known in our own city, we have many fans that always excited with our works. but it quite difficult to introduce our band in other city or in national scope. We remember sending press kit to many reviewer/promotion media in our country but they never publicing us (although some of them just have small followers) except only one or two of them. I think it because the stigma of small city that always being the underdog in wider music scene.

What can you be most proud of so far?
So what make us proud the most so far is we got more attention from international stoner music scene than in our own country. Some reviewer including you, seems excited to write about us and our music even we’re not asking them to write, so we got more listener out there. We are really happy about that!

What was your biggest regret?
I can’t remember any. I don’t think we have anything to regret, we done things well I wish haha.

What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
It’s our album release party, the organizer did a great job, the sound system was great, some of great local bands playing as opener, the weather was good, the crowd sang along to our songs, everyone was happy.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Back to the question number 3, we never thought our music would be appreciated outside our country. It’s a big surprise for us who live in small city and unpopular country that there are a lot of people out there love our music. We love stoner people!

Can you say something more about the music scene in Java, Indonesia?
Altough we live in small city, the music scene here is very healthy. The people is very supportive with any of music movement, even many band from other cities are always happy to perform here and always want to come again, the crowd seems excited with any music show. In the country itself, there are many band and musician wether it from pop industry or independent that are great, we have good music here since the old school era, in rock music we have God Bless, Panbers, Koes Ploes. They have unique style that make them different with western rock music. We also have unique genre called dangdut, it’s a mix of Indian music and Melayu music. The king of dangdut is rhoma irama.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
This year we’ll just play in Indonesia. we don’t see any chance yet to play outside the country even we really want to.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We just finished recording live session for our debut album recently and gonna release the video gradually on YouTube soon. Also, we have some material for the second album or maybe an EP. So this year we’ll be maybe spending time doing workshop and record the album. Then we hope we can do tour along the Java and Bali.
