Doomed Confessionary: Patient Zero (Zombie Hunger)

Zombie Hunger is a horror doom metal band creeping out from Melbourne, Australia. They have just released their self-titled debut album on March 22nd, 2024.
Members of the horde are Patient Zero (vocals), Coffin Queen (bass), Graveborn (rhythm guitar), Wormfeast (lead guitar) and Skineater (drums).
Can you say a few words about your band?
The Zombie Hunger disease began under a full moon on Friday 13th, August 2021. Patient Zero infected Coffin Queen, and soon after, Graveborn, Wormfeast and Skineater were brought into the horde. Our music is inspired by classic horror films, and all the greats of metal and doom, including Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Trouble and Reverend Bizarre. We play HORROR DOOM from BEYOND THE GRAVE!
What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
Last year we started recording our first album »Zombie Hunger« (available to download here: zombiehunger.bandcamp.com). Finishing that took time, but we are the shambling kind of undead, you know? No 28 Days Later sprinters in our band…
What can you be most proud of so far?
We are all proud of the album, and the physical release we have planned is looking DEADLY. We are also proud of our live performance ethic: no matter the audience or the time, when you watch us it IS Midnight… and we are COMING FOR YOU!
What was your biggest regret?
So many brains, so little time…
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We are underground friendly neighbourhood Zombies right now, so all our shows have been local. Doom In June 2023 was a lot of fun. You can see the footage used in a promo for »Mask Of Satan« on our YouTube channel.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Recently Coffin Queen and I caught Fly! playing with Simpson’s doomsters Dr. Colossus on a stinking night, and they blew us away! Dirty speed metal/rock in the vein of Motörhead.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
A lot of Cirith Ungol, since they are touring downunder this year… which is very exciting for us. Also, listening to the releases of local legends Ocean Lord – Kingdom Cold, Mammon’s Throne – self-titled, Motherslug – Blood Moon Blues, Lamassu – Made Of Dust, and a bunch of records from Lucifer’s Fall and Solemn Ceremony from Adelaide’s master of doom, Phil Howlett!
Can you say something more about the music scene in Melbourne, Australia?
Melbourne, Australia is the place to be in Australia for heavy music. There are HORDES of good bands and venues. But, Australia has a small population, so we look across the seas to Europe and the USA with envy… Both have WAY more people to eat…

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Spreading the disease, growing the horde! We are also currently planning a music video to promote the physical release of »Zombie Hunger«.
