Doomed Confessionary: Patrick, Jordan & Cooley (Cleen)

Cleen is a three-piece stoner/doom metal band from Flint, Michigan.
Their debut album »Excursion« is ready to be released in 2024. »Excursion« captures the essence of their basement jam sessions. It was an immediate success among stoner rock enthusiasts, earning them a streamlined following from stoner rock enthusiasts and even the attention of bands that helped form the stoner genre we know today.
Cleen are Patrick Newman (guitar, vocals), Jared Cooley (bass) and Jordan Conrad (drums).
Can you say a few words about your band?
We are from the Flint, MI area. We all have different musical backgrounds that all blend together in one perfect sound. Wile we are heavily influenced by stoner/doom we try to pick from a wide array of genres to pepper into our songs at a moments notice.
What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
The biggest challenge last year was trying to get our debut album, »Excursion« finished. We are in the process of finishing our first album and it has been our main focus last year. While we started playing a lot of shows and hitting the road to Wisconsin, it has been a little bit of a struggle finding time to finish the album. Alas, we found the perfect plan to getting it finished and now it’s just moments away from being pressed to vinyl.
What can you be most proud of last year?
We definitely are most proud of our hard work establishing our live presence and finishing our album, »Excursion«. Being able to play live has been an absolute joy. Being able to travel out of state and meet other insane bands, most notably: Grave Next Door, Solar Monolith and Karma Bloody Karma has been influential to us. We have a nice Doom scene her in MI and we are trying to build it bigger as we go.
What was your biggest regret?
We only have one regreat and it’s not getting to play Blue Ridge Rock Fest.
What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
The best concert last year was our set at Riff Raff Fest in Wisconsin. We played an amazing set and one of the best we’ve played so far. Also the Queens Of The Stone Age tour was amazing. Our guitarist and drummer got to see them when they hit MI, this past summer.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
There were many surprises last year in music. From Slowdive releasing a new album and it isn’t last year but Echo And The Bunnymen gearing up to go on tour next year. Depeche Mode putting out an amazing new album and a tour that’s lasted this entire year. And Queens Of The Stone Age releasing one amazing album and playing shows with Spiritualized. Oh my got what a year. And us starting to play shows really helped contribute to the madness.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
This year you can catch us at Trixies Bar in Hamtramck MI and in East side Detroit at the Cadieux Cafe. You can also catch us on tour with Grave Next Door and Tommy Stewart’s Dyerwulf.
What are your plans for the this year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
Releasing our debut album, »Excursion«. Our main focus at the moment is finishing the album. And what we want the most is already being planned and that’s going on tour with Grave Next Door and Tommy Stewart’s Dyerwulf in March. We get to bring the chaos accross the Midwest. It’s so.ething we are very excited for. Keep up with details on cleenband.com.
How can people best support your band?
