Doomed Confessionary: Pendeho (Hoba)
Once upon a time, in Africa, a meteorite named Hoba crashed down – the heaviest and most cosmic lump of iron ever. The event resonated so intensely through space and time that 80,000 years later, on the first day of school in 2017, it brought together three oddballs from Ljubljana, Slovenia. They didn’t need to search for vocals because in the Universe, no one hears you scream anyway. The power trio consists of Oz on guitars, Pendeho on bass and Martinez on drums.
Hoba’s self-titled debut album dropped on October 17th, 2023.
From their first show in late 2019, Hoba have already shared stages with bands like Omega Sun, Ambra, Britof, Marjana Trench, Ape Shifter, Suma and Yawning Man.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Universe is cool. Vocals are not. Blasted into space in 2017. Still going.
What was the biggest challenge for the band the last year?
To make it big, he he. But seriously, to make a record.
What can you be most proud of last year?
The recording and the release of our first album, simply titled »Hoba«. Finally! It was about time, he he. And thanx y’all for the positive feedback!
What was your biggest regret?
Yeah, not being able to play all the gigs that were offered to us due to overlapping schedules or some other cosmic shit. Oh well, vielleicht das nächste Mal!
What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
For me, the last three shows that we did in 2023. First in Ribnica, cool audience, enthusiastic response and nice local scene – shout out to the band Chicksy Dicks!
Then Radovljica – insane crowd and groovy location. We played in a skate bowl in a skate park that was under one really tall highway bridge. And the guitarist and I also got to do some crowd-surfing, he he.
And last but not least – the concert with legendary Yawning Man, who are friendly and chill dudes, with some really interesting stories to tell. Strange rocks and UFOs in the desert!
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Our bassist can finally tie his shoes. All by himself!
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We just played on February 3rd in Ravne na Koroškem and on August 22nd we’ll be at Hostel Celica in Ljubljana. More spaceship landings to be announced soon.
What are your plans for the this year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
World domination, one A$$ at a time, muahaha! And after that to last a few more orbits around the Sun.
How can people best support your band?
Come to our show. Or don’t. And gaze into the abyss instead.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
To quote some guy named David: “Take your protein pills and put your helmet on!” And of course eat your veggies, kids. And don’t step on guitar cables. Cheers!
