Doomed Nation

Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Rust, Frank, Apsychos & Briareo (Falling Giants)

Hailing from Ancona, Italy, Falling Giants formed in the late summer of 2016 by the meeting of the three original members Rust, Frank and Briareo. After a beginning devoted to the search for sounds between psychedelia and stoner, they then came to an ever greater mix of genres and sub-genres. The musical panorama of inspiration leads the components to seek, with difficulty, a sonic “compass” that ends in the sludge.

Falling Giants are Rust (guitar and vocals), Frank (bass and vocals), Apsychos (guitar) and Briareo (drums).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Our band is an effort to mix different influences on a sludge doom basis. It wasn’t born with this idea, it was a sequence of passages and research made through time and experiments. Starting from 2016, we have been through a demo, an EP and a split, and finally, this year, we have reached our first full-length: »Whirlwind Hymns«! A gust of wind which will scorch your soul. During this important result we also changed guitarist, and we are enthralled in composing new music with him.

What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
We will say for sure, the production of our first album, our first video and our efforts to spread it through the world.

What can you be most proud of last year?
We are proud of our first album. »Whirlwind Hymns« represents perfectly what our way has been. Even though the road is still long and dark and we love to roam in obscure paths.

What was your biggest regret?
Probably it would have been better if the album had come out much earlier with some tour dates to support it. Unfortunately we are far from a good metal scene. Desolation is part of our thematic influences because we live in it for real.

What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
Unfortunately we didn’t have any tour. We only had the opportunity to play a couple of shows. One in Fano and another one in a private party with a clean set. The latter was a curious experiment which we were surprised by its extraordinary result. We had the opportunity to listen to our songs in a clean way, and that was really good.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
If you’re asking me about our local area, none. In an international environment: None which I am aware of. Desolation is not only an effect but also a cause.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
That’s a great question. We don’t have any booking and we’re wandering in a sea fog. But we hope to find something more…

What are your plans for this year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
For sure, composing another album. »Whirlwind Hymns« is a mix of songs composed in the period 2018-21 and since then we haven’t interrupted our ideas and experimentations. We want to bring out something new which represents another period of the band, with new members, new ideas. We want to compose an album based on an Earth element theme and right now we are working with 5 or 6 new songs.

What are your New Year’s Eve activities like?
Frank: I see the Void
Rust: I go to a country rural house with some friends. I see the Void too.
Briareus: I don’t wanna know. 🙁
Apsychos: I clean my doppietta.

How can people best support your band?
We think that purchasing our album on Bandcamp and offering us some gigs, right now, is the best method.
