Giant is a four-piece stoner/doom metal band from Melbourne, Australia. Formed in 2016, Giant consists of PattO))) (guitar, vocals), Sean “1/2 Giant” (guitar, vocals), Louis Reed (bass) and Geeks (drums).

Descending from the mountains like a thundering force of nature, Giant unleash a seismic wave of doom, armed with colossal riffs, earth-shaking amps, and a towering presence that will rattle you to your core.

Dedicated to bringing you the heaviest riffs hewn from the mountainside, they’ve been toiling away in Iommian caverns to bring you their next serving of sonic sedition.

Giant’s second full-length album »Beneath The Mountains« was released on January 7th, 2026 via Primitive Moth. Recorded and mixed by Amesh Perera at Mysteriis Audio and The Black Lodge Studios. Mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. Cover art by Tristan Barnes.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
We’re just a group of 4 guys that love to play BIG RIFFS and making them sound as big as sonically possible.

The band was formed around a shared love of stoner/doom ie: Black Sabbath, Sleep, Electric Wizard etc. and we are just doing our best to keep up with the juggernauts who have trodden the path before us.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
We did have a long stint of looking for a drummer who could commit to us fully as they can be hard to find. But luckily we found Geeks and he’s been destroying the kit for us for a couple years now and we are full steam ahead.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Definitely our new album »Beneath The Mountains«. We really stepped it up this time around and couldn’t be happier with the result. It took us almost 5 years to get all the songs together and be happy with the writing. And with the recording, the overall huge tone of the album and production was exactly what we were aiming for, so we are very proud of it.

What was your biggest regret?
Not being around in the 70’s to catch the legends in their prime: Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Led Zep… damn that would have been unreal.

Serious answer is probably not reaching out to get more international supports for some of the bigger bands that have toured this year. We’re not marketing wizards by any stretch so hopefully »Beneath The Mountains« can put us on the map and we can play with some of the epic bands coming to Australia in 2026.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
So many epic shows over the years so it is hard to pick just one but our album launch at The Bendi was great. It’s our local pub/venue for gigs and we know everyone there etc. so it was great to hang out and party with all our mates in a place we know and love.

We also did a tour up the east coast of Australia which was epic and insane but that’s a story for another time.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Honestly, how good we have it in Melbourne, Australia, there’s always gigs on a Friday/Saturday and even weekdays too. Stoner/doom is a large portion of that as well so it’s great to have such a network of epic bands and friends to gig with regularly.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
We do have a pretty varied taste among the band outside of our love for doom.

Personally however, I’ve been smashing High On Fire, Telekinetic Yeti, The Sword, Candlemass, Acid Mammoth… too many to name to be honest. And of course there’s a regular diet of the classics as mentioned above.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Just putting in 100%, the music deserves it and you want to put in every effort to make it as good as possible.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Not too guilty about it but I do have a debilitating hot sauce addiction.

Maybe the Karaoke playlist after a night of one million beers, fair chance there’ll be some cheesy ones on there, a bit of Creed, maybe even »Kiss From A Rose«.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Melbourne / Australia?
We’ve got a great doom scene in Australia and especially Melbourne, as I said earlier there’s always gigs on and we’ve got a great community that are always keen for more riffs.

Should also shout out some of the local legends putting out great music atm. Non, Iron Blanket, Emu, Mammon’s Throne, all great bands and even better mates, would highly recommend checking them out.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’ve got plenty of Melbourne shows coming up but hopefully we’ll have some more interstate shows in 2026 too.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Hopefully we can do a Europe tour sometime in the future, myself and Patt the other guitarist, actually made the pilgrimage to Birmingham to see the final Sabbath show, then did a big trip through Europe afterwards and we cannot wait to go back.

We didn’t make it to Slovenia but hopefully we can go there next time, maybe a stop on the Europe tour?

How can people best support your band?
We have our Bandcamp if you want some merch/vinyls etc.

Or we have our socials if you want to follow us or get in touch, we don’t just want fans, we want mates too!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
We just hope you enjoy the riffs and we can’t wait to put out more for you soon.

Hopefully we’ll be playing a show near you soon and we can hang in person but appreciate your support regardless.
