Doomed Confessionary: Sergio, Arturo, Víctor & Héctor (Disagradablement)

Disagradablement is a death/doom metal band formed in Madrid (Spain) in 2019. With more desire than skill, they released a self-titled EP the following year, and last year they gave birth to a monolithic 28-minute stoner/doom metal track called »The Swamp Extravaganza Vol. 1«.
For the past few years they have been working half-hard on their debut album, »Zealots«, made up of fat, tupa tupa riffs, an Autopsy cover, and whose release is imminent. »Zealots« was released on January 11th, 2025.
Disagradablement are Sergio Ajenjo on vocals, Arturo Lekuona on guitar, Víctor Rodríguez on bass and Héctor Lekuona on drums.
Can you say a few words about your band?
We are a death/doom band formed in 2019 in Madrid. The project started like somewhat of a joke, kind of “let’s take these instruments that we don’t know how to play and make some death metal tunes lol”. But when we started composing some songs we thought, “hey, these riffs are pretty cool, man”. So we started taking the band (a bit) more seriously. After a while we recorded an EP, a half hour stoner/doom song and we just released our first LP »Zealots«, which is available on Bandcamp and YouTube, and on February 1st on every streaming platform.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Learning how to play our instruments. The only one who really knew how to play was our drummer. Unfortunately, he knew how to play guitar and bass, not drums.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We are really proud of the songs in our album. Despite our lack of technical skills, we think we came up with some really cool riffs, which are the cornerstone of our music. We are riff worshippers, and as long as we feel our riffs are fat and tasty, we’ll be proud and happy.
What was your biggest regret?
For a long time we probably didn’t practice enough. That delayed the release of the album quite a bit. Practice, kids, is our advice.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We are very fond of the first gig we played in, not only because it was the beggining, but also because we played with our brother Mr. Penny and his band Payos Locos. He designed our logo and made some artwork for our T-shirts. He is an amazing artist, and that show was an absolute blast.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The fact that our music is in a number of Russian pirate sites, even though we give it for free. We respect the hustle tho.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Bolt Thrower, Funebre, Gorement, the classics… EyeHateGod. Dopethrone. Props to Crossed, great band from Madrid, check them out if you are into crust/grind stuff.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Practice.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Estopa. But we don’t really feel guilty about it.
Can you say something more about current music scene in Madrid?
If we are talking about the death metal scene specifically, there are great bands doing good shit. We’ve had the chance to play with some of them, Ergum comes to mind from Madrid. Classic, really hard death metal. We played with Cason Brena too a while ago, who are from Northern Spain, there are some really nice acts up there. If you are into doom/death, Sun Of The Dying are kicking it here in Madrid too. Overall, we’d say there’s a lot of talent and a lot of hidden gems in our scene, even though Spain is not the first country that comes to mind when you think about extreme metal.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are playing in a few days at Madrid Invasion Fest III. After that, we are planning on playing in a few places outside of Madrid, in Spain. It’s a bit premature to think about international stuff, but hey, if you want us playing in your town, feel free to hit us up.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We are currently working on another half hour long stoner/doom song, from our »Swamp Extravaganza« sessions. We have two sides of the band, the death metal version for the LPs and slow and stoner for the EPs. After releasing the second one, we’ll start working on more fast and brutal riffs.
How can people best support your band?
I mean, just listen to our music if you think it’s good stuff. We’re happy with that. If you drop a couple bucks on Bandcamp we will toast to you with the beer we buy with those couple bucks, but, you know, we knew from the beggining that death/doom metal wasn’t our vehicle out of poverty lol. Just listen to our music if you like it, and come see us if we play near you.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
[Whole band, except Sergio; singer]: No.
[Sergio; singer]: I don’t like that answer. You are idiots. I love our fans. (note from the rest of the band: which fans lol)
