Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Stephan (KRPL)

Whats’s your favorite Austrian band? Here’s the interviev with KRPL and then you’ll see next…

KRPL are a heavy rocking power trio from Graz, Austria. Their purely instrumental sound is a mixture of metal, stoner, psychedelic, doom and a great portion of raw power. Get ready to bang your head!

KRPL have just released their new full-length album »Blei« on November 24th, 2023 via Kerberos Records.

Can you say a few words about your band?
Well, we formed KRPL in 2013 and have been playing in the same constellation ever since. From the get-go we were already pretty happy with being a purely instrumental act. There were some experiments with vocals though, but we could never find a setup that would actually grow or add to our musical ideas, so we stuck to our guns. Over the last decade we continuously followed our vision of heavy and actually meaningful music, even though it might not have been the most popular decision, haha.
Furthermore, we regularly collaborate with our friend Ben from Kanoi and have released several jam albums together, which is super fun. The latest Kanoi & KRPL record called »Geierspeis« came out this year.

What was the biggest challenge for the band this year?
Booking shows was surprisingly difficult for us this year. It seems that without personal connections it is impossible to land a gig in some venues.

What can you be most proud of this year?
Definitely the finishing of our latest record »Blei«. This project has been ongoing for the past five years and we still had a lot of stuff to push through. We wanted to make a record that would satisfy us personally and one that stands the test of time. So far we are very happy with what we have achieved.

What is your biggest regret?
That would have to be the fact that we have very limited time to spend together, as we live in different cities that lie about six hours apart. We have to be very considerate with how we want to use that time.

What was the best concert/tour this year and why?
Our latest two concerts in Dornbirn and Linz were really amazing. Enthusiastic crowds, great bands to share stages with and an overall good vibe. It felt great to finally play »Blei« live.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Perhaps the emergence of fully AI created music disguised as music from actual artists and its success. In a way this is music made by computers for computerized human beings.

Where can we see you live next year (concerts/tours)?
We are currently planning shows for next year. So far, you’ll be able to see us in Graz in January and in Salzburg in March. For dates, please refer to our SoMe pages.

What are your plans for the next year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
We definitely want to play »Blei« live a lot. So we are looking for festivals and venues that are interested in having us. Also, we would definitely enjoy playing some shows abroad.

How can people best support you?
Well, the most important thing for us is to get our music out there. Therefore, we encourage everyone to share our music with friends and family or other interested people. Also, any support for booking shows is greatly appreciated.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you for keeping faith with us and making our journey all the more worthwhile! Cheers from Austria!
