Doomed Confessionary: Thomas (In Der Welt)

In Der Welt is a four-piece alternative noise metal band from Clermont-Ferrand, France.
In Der Welt released their latest EP »Sungazing« in December 2024, available now on limited edition CD and digitally via P.O.G.O. Records. Produced entirely by the band between July and October 2024. Mixed and mastered by Pascal Mondaz.
»Sungazing« EP is an image of the band at that time, in development, ahead of their next album which is in preparation.
Can you say a few words about your band?
We are four guys from the center of France, making music together as friends. We do som loething between post-metal, post hxc, punk, and grunge. We can name some of the biggest influences like The Dillinger Escape Plan, Oranssi Pazuzu, Nirvana, Will Haven, Deftones…
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
We started the band in 2019, and we planned to tour for the first time in march april 2020. That period did not exist for bands so it took one year more to start to play live and keep the band active. That was the first challenge.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We are really proud to have produced an album and the last EP ourselves. We had the image of it in our head before recording it, and we succeed to go where we wanted. We think of it as an entirety, the music is powered by the visuals. So yes, we are proud to make something complete with In Der Welt.
What was your biggest regret?
We don’t have that much regrets, except that we wanted to tour more than we did.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We have a lot of good memories of live shows. I can say the one in Clermont Ferrand on December 15th at five band’s night we organised. It was intense emotionnally. Then, I can take a show in Nevers in a small cave with a very active audience and a lot of sweating.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The metal scene, is pretty nice. It is not a really big surprise but people are gentle, correct, fun, and like to spend good times. It is important to live in a great environnement, and keep people in contact.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Now I am stucked on a French rapper, Ben PLG. But I also listen a lot to Aphex Twin, Meshuggah, the last Shannon Wright, and one the best of 2024 Crippling Alcoholism. I also like an Irish hardcore band called Worn Out, that we want to tour with if we find enough show at the end of the year.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Keep on working, keep on making what you like to do the way do, and keep on having good time
What are your guilty pleasures?
Playing the same video game over and over as if it was the first time and feeling super happy with it.
Can you say something more about current music scene in Clermont-Ferrand?
In Clermont-Ferrand, middle of France, there is plenty of good bands in many genres as Witchfinder, Untitled With Drums, Like Wires, Darkswamp, Dragon Rapide, Garciaphone (undefeated in folk songs battles).
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are playing Bruxelles in Belgium with Hexis on March 26th, and in Nilvanges on March 28th. Then we will be in the south of France with Like Wires (Marseille, Bordeaux…) in May. TBA
And there will be more gigs added during the year.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We plan to record our second album after this summer, to be released in 2026. We have the studio and the mixer. Until that, we will be playing where people want us to.
How can people best support your band?
Make us play in your town if you can do it. Otherweise, come to the show will be ok.
Buy merchandising if you find the good tee.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Hope we will tour where you are.
Hope the »Sungazing« EP finds you well.
