Doomed Confessionary: Timm Mädler (Blood Specter)

Blood Specter is a gothic/doom metal band from Bielefeld, Germany. Formed in 2022 by veteran musicians of varying backgrounds in hardcore, punk and metal to take their torches to the dimly lit realms of contemporary doom metal.
Led by the soaring vocals of Rebecca Möller, the band features Tobias Laufkötter (Tongue, Unru) and Timm Mädler (Unru, ex-Vyre) on guitars, Manuel Peiler (ex-Disgusting News) on bass, and their newest addition, drummer Andreas Fiedler (ex-Vyre). Together, they delve into themes of loss, separation, and grief – emotions deeply woven into their creative process.
After honing their sound with a self-titled demo and a follow-up single »Blood Specter«, Blood Specter released their debut album »Farewell« on May 2nd, 2025 via Fucking Kill Records.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
We’re Blood Specter from Bielefeld, Germany and we play gothic doom metal with some more touches and slights of more classic heavy metal. We just released our debut album »Farewell« on Fucking Kill Records.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Getting shows and recognition. To be honest, we’re not playing a brand of Metal that is particularly popular or trendy right now. We don’t give a shit and just make the music we’d want to listen to. But it definitely makes it harder to gain some ground, especially compared to other bands we all have been in.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Our first full-length »Farewell«. This album took a lot of time and patience and we basically did almost everything ourselves, from start to finish. We got amazing help by our talented friends with artwork, layout and mastering and are very proud of the contribution by these great talents.
What was your biggest regret?
I don’t think we have anything to regret yet. We’re haven’t been around for long and have still tons of mistakes to make!
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Our best show arguably took place in Minden, at a tiny but very well run club called Papagei. I was deprived of sleep, very hungover and a general mess. But the second the tech guys of the venue went to work during soundcheck, I knew it would work out great. We played a completely flawless set in front of a small but very enthusiastic crowd that matched our energy.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I don’t know if it really surprises me, but I’m amazed by the dedication of the folks running DIY venues, festivals, labels and how they invest so much time and energy just to set up a show for some doom band nobody ever heard of and make it actually WORK, you know. Get out of the house, gather some friends and connect to your local music scene!
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Ozzy. Solo works, Sabbath, single features. I dreaded the day of his passing for years, yet knew it would come.
Besides that, I’m listening to a lot of different stuff recently. Boy Harsher, Ethel Cain, old Slayer, Pig Pen and Mournful Congregation would be my most played artists this week.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
I feel like I had to figure out a lot of shit myself. But given the fact that I keep making the same mistakes, maybe it’s time for me to pass on some advice: you have a tuner pedal, use it. Before, after and mid set. Especially after your guitar strap fails and you have to catch your guitar mid-fall.
What are your guilty pleasures?
I enjoy clickbait YouTube True Crime videos and sometimes fall asleep watching them.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Bielefeld?
Stuff bounced back post Covid to normal levels I guess. But suddenly, everyone’s younger than me.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We just have one more show booked for later this year, Witch Sabbath Festival in Oldenburg. But we hope there will be some more. We love that shit.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Write a new record, play shows, meet friends. The usual.

Get on Bandcamp and get yourself a copy of »Farewell«. It’s a sad record, but you can dance or have sex to it.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you. Being in bands is mostly about spending quality time with your friends, but someone else getting something out of it makes it WAY better.
