Doomed Confessionary: Voidhex, Mortn, Drumkid & Mr. Nothing (Out Of Nothing)
Out Of Nothing is a stoner-punk-metal band from Vienna, Austria.
Influenced by Orange Goblin, Rage Against The Machine and Johnny Logan, the band has a solid line-up: Heinz Kittner (ex-Ernst Molden) on drums, Martin Müller (ex-Only 5 Dollars) on guitar, Gina Holzmann (ex-Rammelhof) on bass & vocals, and Alexandros Karavias on vocals. In their lyrics they describe the normal madness of everyday life.
Out Of Nothing have released their debut EP »Looking For The Exit« independently on May 17th, 2024. The EP was recorded by Florian Jaukner at Audiomanufaktur Wien. The mixing and mastering was done by George Bokos at Grindhouse Studios, Athens. Cover artwork by Bokoz.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Before Out Of Nothing the four of us were involved in other genresor projects. Voidhex, our bass playerette had an Austrian dialect pop/rock project. Mortn played guitar in punkrock bands while Drumkid played in jazz & blues combos. Mr. Nothing was singing Greek rembetika!
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Since we started in 2019 we had some rotation on the guitars but since 2023 we have Mortn…he’s a keeper!
What can you be most proud of so far?
Our debut EP »Looking For The Exit«. Especially because we recorded it in the studio together, so basically the songs are hardly edited single-takes. Also playing for 800 people at Arena Wien last December!
What was your biggest regret?
Mortn: no regrets! Neither in music nor private. Making mistakes is ok. Just go on & never give up!
Mr. Nothing: I do regret not having more time & resources to make music but acceptance is the key.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Mortn: Every gig up to now has been special! You meet different bands, play for different crowds & on different stages. Every next show is a challenge, and the best so far!
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Mr. Nothing: Orange Goblin’s hiatus!
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Voidhex: The Lambrini Girls, Amyl & the Sniffers, 24/7 Diva Heaven, The Ocean, Led Zeppelin, Zeal & Ardor, Aretha Franklin, Bikini Beach.
Mortn: Heaven Shall Burn, Frank Turner, Rise Against.
Drumkid: Motörhead, Dio, Black Sabbath, James Brown, The Cult.
Mr. Nothing: Heavy Temple, Bette Davis, High Desert Queen, Torpedo Torpedo, Lowrider, Orange Goblin, Great Rift, Planet of Zeus, Talking Heads.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Keep it simple!
What are your guilty pleasures?
If we all start counting it’s gonna be a long list!
Can you say something more about current music scene in Vienna?
Mortn: There is a good scene in Vienna with lots of good bands and small locations especially punk & metal.
Mr. Nothing: The stoner rock scene is yet to become stronger, but Dazed & Confused, Roadtrip to Outer Space or Kerberos Records are doing a good job to keep it up.
