Doomed Confessionary: William J Orc’s (Pain Chemistry)
Pain Chemistry is a new experimental doom/stoner/sludge band from the crusty dusty mountains of Western North Carolina.
The trio released two singles »Devastation« (May 2024) and »Dark Future« (June 2024) and a cover version of Black Sabbath classic »Into The Void« (August 2024), all acompanied with music videos.
Pain Chemistry are Tyler Brown (vocals, guitar), William J Orc’s (bass) and Chris Swayney (drums, backing vocals).
Can you say a few words about your band?
It was never supposed to exist. It started as a couple of tunes I wanted the guitarist to write some solos and lyrics to for a studio joint I was conjuring up. One thing lead to another and here we are.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
So far distance and time. But we are hammering out and managing it all. We practice once a week and work on promotion and writing when we can.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We have 2 full albums almost out of the box from jumpo street and are starting to work on a 3rd. We released 2 music videos within a month of existing.
What was your biggest regret?
Not starting this project sooner. But it wasn’t time.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Well we just played our first show and it was a 16 band fest of sorts. Definitely a good show and one for the memories.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
How much had changed in the nearly 3 years I had been absent, from getting a handle on social media again to seeing bands come and go.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Clutch, High On Fire, Sleep, We Hunt Buffalo, Orange Goblin, Kyuss, Melvins, Dopethrone and Conan to name a few.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Never be afraid to fail. It can only go up from there.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Hiking. Boating. Driving to new places.
Can you say something more about the music scene in Western North Carolina?
Closest big city is Asheville NC, USA. It is quite diverse which is good. There is definitely a scene for what we do.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We plan to play Tennessee and South Carolina within the next year as well as a few North Carolina shows.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Starting a record label after becoming established, exclusively for the surrounding projects to release demos and EPs through.
How can people best support your band?
Facebook, Bandcamp, Instagram those are easiest. The handle is always painchemistry with no space.
