To celebrate the release of their debut EP, Dutch funeral doom metal act Angmodnes releases a music video for »Weight Of Eternity«.

»The Weight Of Eternity« is about a damned soul forced to live on forever, after everything and everyone has long since passed away. The doom laid upon this poor wretch can be seen metaphorically, as those who have lost any sense of attachment to this world and who are so far removed from life as to scarcely be able to think about anything other than death, are they not just as alone? The song is about what it is like to be forced to persist in a meaningless world against your will, and to mourn what was lost; and to revel in that grief, because it is the only meaningful thing left.”

Angmodnes is a doom metal collaboration by Y.S. (Wilds Forlorn, Apotelesma) and M.V. (Apotelesma, Vanir), from Utrecht, the Netherlands. Angmodnes came into being as the despondent offshoot of Apotelesma. The compositions were originally intended for that band but were then found to be born too close to funeral doom and not in line with the direction of that band. The sound of Angmodnes is characterized as doleful, oppressive, and desperate.

»The Weight Of Eternity« is Angmodnes’ first offering; an album in the works since 2013 and finally completed in 2022. Within its 36 minutes and 21-second runtime, it paints an utterly bleak and hopeless picture of one damned to live on forever, after everything and everyone has long since passed away. The doom laid upon this wretched soul can be seen metaphorically, as those who have lost any sense of attachment to this world and who are so far removed from life as to scarcely be able to think about anything other than death, are they not just as alone?

»Weight Of Eternity«: The title track tells what it is like to be forced to persist in the world against your will and mourning what was lost, to revel in that grief because it is the only meaningful thing left.

»Hollow Earth«: »Hollow Earth« details a process of spiritual alienation. The world has lost its splendor and substance. Nowhere feels like home and an apprehensive restlessness takes hold. A frantic search for meaning ensues to no avail.

»Under Darkened Vaults«: »Under Darkened Vaults« is a redacted excerpt from a text by the Romanian writer Emil Cioran. It is about ways in which those who are so far removed from life have learned to hide from its tireless oppressive pointlessness. For those who suffer from extreme existential despair it can become tempting to develop a morbid devotion to one’s despondency.

»The Weight Of Eternity« offers three captivating tracks and is highly recommended for fans of Evoken, Frowning, Shape Of Despair and Ahab. Stunning artwork done by Simon Bossert.
