Gold Spire’s second full-length album, »Steps Into Shadow«, will be released on June 19, 2026 via Awakening Records. The album will be available on CD and digital formats.
Formed in 2019 in Uppsala, Sweden, Gold Spire emerged from the creative aftermath of Usurpress, founded by brothers Erik Sundström and Påhl Sundström following the dissolution of Påhl’s former band. What began as an exploration beyond the boundaries of progressive death metal quickly evolved into something far more unpredictable: a dark and immersive collision of death metal, progressive rock and jazz-infused experimentation.
Originally conceived through ideas developed during the recording sessions for Usurpress’ final album »Interregnum« (2018), Gold Spire was built on a philosophy that prioritized atmosphere, storytelling, and emotional weight over genre conventions. Together with saxophonist Magnus Kjellstrand and bassist Petter Broman, the band forged a sound equally rooted in filth and sophistication – balancing crushing heaviness with haunting melodies and expansive arrangements.
Following the release of their acclaimed self-titled debut, Gold Spire continued to evolve creatively and sonically. The band has since completed work on their second full-length album, »Steps Into Shadow«, a darker and more direct record that further expands the band’s dynamic and genre-defying identity while retaining the progressive and death metal core that defines their sound.
The lineup has also seen a new chapter begin with vocalist Arvid Sjödin (Floating) joining the band, replacing former vocalist Heval Bozarslan. Arvid brings a distinct presence and intensity that perfectly complements Gold Spire’s increasingly powerful and atmospheric direction.
With »Steps Into Shadow«, Gold Spire continues its descent into uncharted musical territory – where shifting moods and contrasts, progressive ambition and death metal darkness merge into a singular and evocative experience.
