ExpiatoriA (heavy doom) and Il Segno del Comando (dark prog) are proud to announce the release of their split album »Voci Notturne« via Black Widow Records.
The album features seven songs (three by ExpiatoriA and four by Il Segno del Comando) and focuses on the TV miniseries »Voci Notturne« (“Nocturnal Voices”) written by the famous Italian director Pupi Avati, which aired in 1995.
»Voci Notturne« will be premiered digitally on Bandcamp on Friday, March 6, 2026, and in physical format (CD, vinyl, and limited edition vinyl, which includes the book »Voci Notturne – Il magico mondo di Pupi Avati« by Andrea Scarabelli, published by Bietti) on Friday, March 13.
The album will also be available for purchase during the two bands’ concert at La Claque in Genoa on Sunday, March 8, 2026, where it will be performed in its entirety.

The idea of writing a concept and a split for »Voci Notturne« came from former ExpiatoriA singer Davide Ciccarelli, aka Krieg (whose signature appears on some of the album’s lyrics), an idea that was welcomed with enthusiasm and which immediately also involved Il Segno del Comando, a band closely linked to cinematic and occult and mysterious themes.
“Having always been fans of the Rai TV series of the 1970s (which inspired us completely, even in choosing the name of our band), we were pleasantly surprised by the release of »Voci Notturne« in the mid-1990s.
Over time, Pupi Avati’s filmography has become a point of reference for all those who, like us, loved a quintessentially Italian style of filmmaking that was in danger of being forgotten, increasingly overwhelmed by the enormous amount of Hollywood-inspired offerings.
We therefore enthusiastically accepted the proposal from our friends at ExpiatoriA to dedicate a split album to this extraordinary chapter in Italian culture,” states Il Segno del Comando.

The fact that an aura of mystery hovers over the broadcast itself and the subsequent distribution of the TV series (still not available on official VHS or DVD, and whose version available on RaiPlay, aka the Italian internet archive of everything related to the national tv, is reworked) only adds to the allure of this dark work by Maestro Pupi Avati.
“Each band has tried to recreate, in their own unique style, the eerie and mysterious atmosphere of the TV series. The series, which was not very successful when it was released in 1995, has established itself over the years as one of the most important cult TV series of recent Italian cinema.
Furthermore, the opportunity to release new music with a band we greatly admire like Il Segno del Comando, now four years after our debut “Shadows,” a period that has seen several lineup changes, intense concert activity, and a shift toward more heavy metal, was too good an opportunity to pass up.
Translating the sensations evoked by »Voci Notturne« into music, with Latin lyrics and prog-flavored songs, was a wonderful challenge, and we are truly satisfied with the result, which perfectly embodies our current style,” ExpiatoriA stated.
Recording took place between 2023 and 2025 with the help of Edoardo Napoli at Evilcation Studios, allowing the bands time to craft a cohesive and engaging album, both musically and thematically. Mixing, mastering, and production by Edoardo Napoli, ExpiatoriA, and Il Segno del Comando.
»Voci Notturne« will be released digitally exclusively on Bandcamp on Friday, March 6, 2026, and physically on CD, vinyl, and a limited edition vinyl by Black Widow Records on Friday, March 13.
The split will be presented in its entirety at a concert at La Claque in Genoa on Sunday, March 8, 2026, where it will also be available for purchase. The bands will also play a series of concerts focused on the promotion of »Voci Notturne« all along 2026. More info on their social media profiles.
