Press Release:

Finnish melancholic metal act Crimson Gallows has released its debut album »The Bitter Scriptures« today, February 13th, alongside a lyric video for the album track »The Bride Of The Mire«.

Founded in Helsinki in 2023, Crimson Gallows blends melancholic metal with the heavy influences of doom metal and a dark, gothic atmosphere. The project is the personal creation of multi-instrumentalist Arvid Kuura, and »The Bitter Scriptures« marks his first full-length release. Kuura is responsible for the album’s compositions, lyrics, arrangements, and production.

The album’s songs are based on true Finnish tragedies and historical crimes. »The Bitter Scriptures« does not glorify or romanticize these events; instead, it approaches them with seriousness and respect, focusing on human suffering and the forgotten fates that linger in the shadows of history.

Released today, the lyric video for »The Bride Of The Mire« explores the murder case of teenage-girl Kyllikki Saari, which has grown into near-mythical proportions in Finland. The crime, which took place in the 1950s, has since become embedded in the country’s cultural memory.

“I am not drawn to fairy tales or fantasy stories, so I wanted to find a more concrete and tangible theme for the album. Each track tells the story of an extreme Finnish tragedy, wrapped in a veil of melancholic music. Some of the cases may be unfamiliar to international listeners, but I believe those acquainted with Finnish criminal history will recognize the stories behind the lyrics. I will be sharing more background details later through the band’s social media channels,” Kuura comments.
