Finnish progressive stoner/doom metal trio Saturnist released their new three-track EP »Prophets«

Helsinki, Finland based progressive stoner/doom metal trio Saturnist stream their new EP, »Prophets«, which was just released on March 9th, 2024.

Each track of this 3-song EP is inspired by a different 20th century cult.

1. The Sixth Seal

The Blackburn Cult, officially the Divine Order of the Royal Arms of the Great Eleven, or the Great Eleven Club, was a new religious movement started in 1922 by the American woman May Otis Blackburn.

Blackburn claimed that the angels Gabriel and Michael were dictating a book (initially dubbed “The Seventh Trumpet of Gabriel”, but later changed to “The Great Sixth Seal”) to her and her daughter that explained all the secrets of the universe. She promised that when the book was published, the Seventh Seal described in Revelation would be broken in heaven and an apocalyptic event would occur.

2. Helter Skelter

The Helter Skelter scenario is an apocalyptic vision that was supposedly embraced by Charles Manson and members of his so-called Family. The term Helter Skelter was taken from the Beatles’ song of the same name, which Manson purportedly interpreted as concerned with the war.

3. Overcome

Heaven’s Gate was an American new religious movement known primarily for the mass suicide committed by its members in 1997. All 39 were dressed in identical black shirts and sweat pants, brand new black-and-white Nike Decades athletic shoes, and armband patches reading “Heaven’s Gate Away Team”.

Scholars have described the theology of Heaven’s Gate as a mixture of Christian millenarianism, New Age, and ufology, and as such it has been characterized as a UFO religion.
