»Sway« is the 8th album of the band, released on September 13, 2024 by label At(h)ome / Sony Music.
“Headcharger are French, they sing in English, they are brilliant, and they sound like a Gallic orgy between Clutch, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster and Priestess… Headcharger bring the party, they bring the groove, they clearly enjoy themselves and the kind of music they play is impossively addictive.”
Let off steam, why? Headcharger is blowing out its twenty candles with vigor like one stokes the embers of a fire ready to start up again with renewed vigor. Three years after »Rise From The Ashes«, an album celebrating the comeback of a band that has never gone back to second gear and happy to welcome two new members ready to fight, here comes the time of »Sway«, the eighth discographic blow delivered by the Norman combo. A record that feels both urgency and the desire to fight, as if the tour that preceded the studio sessions had not been enough to evacuate everything the band had to say by burning the boards at each concert.

»Sway« is both a direct record on which Sébastien Pierre’s voice reconnects with its raucous and raw side and the result of a collective work even more advanced than for its predecessor, Antoine Cadot (drums) and David Vallée (guitar and second voice) having this time had the time to take part in the composition process from the beginning in the company of David Rocha (guitar) and Romain Neveu (bass). After seven albums having revisited with the same success hard rock, hardcore, stoner and the best of indie rock from the 90s, Headcharger fully assumes a status that will have disturbed more than one labeler: too metal for rockers, too rock for metalheads. And then? That’s also what makes this group so unique.
A true best of its know-how without sounding like a step backwards, »Sway« is an explosive cocktail bringing together explosive ingredients as only Headcharger has known how to arrange them for eight albums now. From the opening »Insane« and its ultra-energetic and direct rock side to its massive and mid-tempo »This Can’t Be Mine«, the group lines up the audio bombs during a record as frank as it is uninhibited on which the vocal melodies are shared even more between Sébastien and David. A work that reserves more than one surprise for those who expected a »Rise From The Ashes« Volume 2« without taking risks, like »Against The Storm«, one of the calmest pieces ever recorded by the group and the incredible »Obsessed« which starts with the softness of a lullaby before ending like a devastating sonic cataclysm.
Where »Rise From The Ashes« reminded us at times of the sound of the nineties and the Foo Fighters, »Sway« evokes the rawer energy of Cave In or Poison The Well. If the melody is still in place, the group seems to have regained a taste for screaming its anger when it comes to tackling more tense subjects with this insolent success that is impossible to classify. Rock in the red? Metal that grooves? Headcharger, quite simply. An eighth firebrand ready to turn your eardrums and guts upside down. Welcome to the octagon.
