This Friday, April 10, 2026, marks the final stretch for Cabaret Fantôme, an outsider on the Vous Connaissez? roster, who will be releasing their debut album in a week! And I don’t use the word “outsider” lightly, as this quartet, based between Nantes and Rennes, plays a dark, occult, and dandyish hard rock style (yep, totally). Add to that an old-school prog, even goth, sensibility, and you get a real step outside of the comfort zone with »Hollow Sun«, available Friday, April 17 (pre-orders open), from Bat-Cave Productions. And to build even more anticipation, the band is releasing a second taste of this album now. After the epic »Light Only Shines On Evil«, let’s make some room for a direct and gothic hit, sung in French: »Maison des Lumières« (which in english means “House Of Lights”). Recommended for fans of Blue Öyster Cult, The Cult, but also Christian Death or even Killing Joke.

With its straight-forward drums, playful bass prominently featured, and guitar with mystical notes and a catchy riff, there’s no doubt about it: Cabaret Fantôme is fully embracing the post-punk meets goth rock vibe with »Maison des Lumières«. This second track from »Hollow Sun« is undoubtedly one of their most effective songs. It also showcases the wide range of influences offered by the “rockwave” quartet, who here express themselves in French through the plaintive vocals of Jeremy Chollet. Already used to it in his thrash metal band Hexecutor, the singer tells us a bit more about the theme running through this track:

»Maison des Lumières« is a metaphor for depression, depicted by a house from which the character cannot truly escape; the light switches are nowhere to be found, and illuminating the way out becomes impossible. The city’s streetlights serve as gallows rather than sources of light; walking and wandering through the fog of endless streets in perpetual darkness becomes our protagonist’s daily life.
