»Fatum« (Latin, n.) – “that which has been spoken”; fate, destiny, doom. From fari, “to speak”: in Roman usage, a fatum was a divine utterance or decree, something pronounced and therefore fixed and unalterable.

Bright Curse’s new album »Fatum« sees the now Bordeaux-based trio expand their powerful, shadowy brand of psychedelia with even greater dynamic range and emotional breadth, unafraid to embrace their mellow and stripped-down facet alongside their heavier side, and adding new instruments such as cello and guest female vocals for the first time. The arrival of new drummer Thibault Guezennec (Red Sun Atacama, Maniard) and bassist Rory O’Callaghan (Tie Break, ex-Libido Fuzz) has considerably reshaped the songwriting, steering it away from extended trippy, blues-laden jams toward a more straightforward approach. It was recorded at Cryogène Studio and mastered at AD Mastering in Bordeaux, France.

The cover art was painted by Xavier Jalon Lopez, who created the artwork for their previous album »Time Of The Healer«. For »Fatum«, he worked around the Moirai (Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos), the Greek Fates who spin, measure, and cut the thread of life, deciding its length and shape beyond mortal or divine argument. “»Fatum« is what binds us all together, and it’s what the album is about – songs built around inevitable things: time passing, family, mental health, religion, war. It’s all in there somewhere. We didn’t set out with a theme; it revealed itself as we kept adding songs,” singer and guitarist Romain Dautel explains.

Born from the electric haze of London in 2012, Bright Curse is a heavy psychedelic rock trio now rooted in Bordeaux, France. From its earliest rituals, the band has conjured a sound both crushing and ethereal – where earth-shaking riffs blend with spectral melodies and lyrics drenched in light and shadow.

Led by Romain Daut (vocals/guitar), Bright Curse has carved a unique path through the underground with a voice that shifts from incantation to desperate cry. Their debut full-length, »Before The Shore« (HeviSike Records, 2016), was a tide-soaked journey into doomy atmospheres, followed by »Time Of The Healer« (Ripple Music, 2019), a darker, more introspective voyage laced with ritualistic textures and mystical instrumentation. In 2024, the circle expands with Rory O’Callaghan (Tie Break, ex-Libido Fuzz) joining on bass, and Thibault “Bison” Elgazzar (Red Sun Atacama, ex-Libido Fuzz) taking over the drums. Together, they form a rhythm section steeped in raw groove and primitive force – each beat and rumble echoing like an offering to something deeper and unseen.

Now settled in Bordeaux’s feverish underground, Bright Curse is crafting a new cycle of sonic invocations. Their next release, expected before the end of 2026, promises a return to their roots while expanding their spectral palette into new and uncharted territories.

Bright Curse is:
Romain Dautel – Guitar & Vocals
Rory O’Callaghan – Bass
Thibault Guezennec – Drums
