Bird Without A Song comes full circle by including »A Dance Of Cranes« on their »Written Memories«. This track holds particular significance for the band, as it was the very first of their history. It’s also the one they consider their most accessible, though it holds its share of surprises for those who listen closely. At nearly seven minutes long, it’s a piece imbued with a contagious melancholy, which manages to build in intensity thanks to a clever and masterful transition. This also openly reveals the quartet’s post-metal influences, most notably Cult Of Luna and Russian Circles. This fluid structure, however, opens the door to what makes BWAS unique: their prog rock aspirations. Let yourself be swept away into diverse sonic landscapes, where the emotional range occasionally shifts towards joy.

Serge Kabeya, one of the two band’s guitarist, tells us more about the decision to give »A Dance Of Cranes« a second life:
“The fact that »A Dance Of Cranes« appears on this new EP, despite also being on another one that shares its title, might seem surprising. But ultimately, it’s representative of the approach behind this project, and why we titled it »Written Memories«: we wanted to capture something that has always been constantly evolving. Our songs change with us, with our experience as musicians, but also as a band, depending on how we listen to each other… Many factors explain this ongoing transformation, and this EP reflects who we were when we recorded it at Treignac Projet. Revisiting this very first track is somewhat symbolic of that. Between the first version we recorded more than three years ago and this one, we don’t have the same mastery or the same feeling. There are also subtle but definite changes that reflect this evolution. It’s kind of in our DNA to never be static. We wanted to try this exercise, painting a portrait of who we were at that moment.”
As with »Eaux Troubles«, »A Dance Of Cranes« is accompanied by a live performance at Treignac Projet. A former thread factory nestled in the heart of the Corrèze region, this unique and multidisciplinary space is where music, visual art, and film shoots intersect. Bird Without A Song’s compositions take on a whole new dimension there, especially when you witness the synergy between the musicians.
