French doom/death band Funeralium, who was founded in 2003 by Ataraxie member Marquis, who wanted to create one of the sickest doom band on this planet, inspired by bands like Bethlehem, Abruptum, Thergothon, Saint Vitus and Burning Witch. Berserk (who also plays with Marquis in Ataraxie) joined the band, soon followed by Yskithyrwynn and Toxine (from the Celtic black metal band Heol Telwen). They describe their style as “ultra sick doom” and play tortured, disturbed, extreme doom metal without any romantic vibes, female vocals, circus keyboards and cheesy lyrics.

The concept of »Decrepit« was born in 2019 as they were painfully aware of the hopelessness of the situation, how mankind is working tirelessly towards its own demise. Destroying diligently its own habitat and the habitat of all other species. But they also realized, with a sort of Twisted long-term optimism, that with the inevitable and near disappearance of mankind, the Earth would be free. The 2020 Pandemic only condirmed these visions and cemented their certainty. It was strange to elaborate a concept that would be echoed dramatically a few months later. So it is during the Pandemic that Funeralium went back to the studio, finding ways to record everything, step by step, in various places, with the many hindrances caused by the Pandemic.

All of it with the intent to obtain an organic, vibrant and harsh sound. At times clean and cold with razor-sharp arpeggios but neither polished nor soulless. Though constantly evolving in structures and style, the album is faithful to its funeral doom origins, with many twists and unexpected bursts. Once again Marquis went all-in with a gut-wrenching performance that leaves no one unscathed.
