For a long time, duos in alternative rock no longer get bonus points. Live, the verbal shoulder pat comes when energy and volume are not lacking, and even sympathy points are earned when two people on stage rock out like a wild thirteen.
In album productions, all of that is forgotten. An album is an album is an album. It’s about good songs, sound, and entertainment. Only the result counts, and »Tutti Frutti« is impressive! The Pighounds – aka Peter Bering and Alessandro de Luca – reduce their songs to the essentials, revive 90s alternative rock on their third album, and breathe melodies into it that are charming, catchy, and catchy. At the same time, the two scratch, bite, and hit around as if they have to prove that nothing is missing.

What started as snotty garage rock quickly found its own sound and style. More focused, harder, without losing the slacker DIY charm. The two extremely friendly Pighounds exude musically, but also behind the stage, the pleasant Ruhrpott charm, which is also graphically implemented on the cover artwork this time. The oldest power plant in the Ruhr area can be seen here in pastel colors and winks at Pink Floyd’s »Animals« – only instead of piglets, The Pighounds fly past the chimney – whether they were involved in the demolition of the 80-meter-high chimney is not entirely clear. They provide the soundtrack for it. Hardened by hundreds of shows from very small to very large. Musically buddy-like. It steams, rattles, and rocks solidly from all cracks. A rock power plant of the highest class. The song in mind and melodies that stay in your head the next morning and accompany you throughout the day.
On »Tutti Frutti« it never gets boring or monotonous for a second. The two scene activists, who curate their own festival in addition to music video evenings in the local cinema, have expanded their color palette. In addition to band-typical riff monsters like »Serenity« or »Love Fuzz«, »Pay To Pay« surprises with new calmness, »Vadder« tells its story in a laid-back manner, and »Day Of The Acid« increases in its anthemic, stomping way to a highlight of the album.
A bizarre mix of grunge, stoner, alternative rock, punk… seamlessly and without genre rules, there is a contemporary guitar album of the 2020s. An impressive album, all the more so because it is DIY in the truest sense. From the studio recordings, to the songs, lyrics, photos, videos, to the cover artwork, no fifth hand was involved. Only others are allowed to listen…
