After pushing the limits of filthy, abrasive heaviness on their early releases (back then still under the name Shitshifter), HVRT have reshaped their sound since 2020 – now a solid four-piece with two guitars – becoming harsher, grittier and more atmospheric than ever before. With their fully live-recorded album »The Grief That Feeds The Night«, it became clear that HVRT are committed to real performance over quantized perfection – a path they continue even more relentlessly on their upcoming record »Cancerbloom«.

Four people in a room, no sterile production, no polished edges. Just what’s truly there. HM-2 references may flicker through the sound here and there, but without any retro nostalgia – more as fragments feeding into the band’s own bleak and abrasive vibe. Blastbeats collide with dragging grooves, odd harmonies melt into sludge-laden weight, and black-metal atmospheres clash with punk-soaked spite. The music stays uncompromising, intense and, despite its variety, feels cut from one piece.

Above all the noise, harmonies and chaos stands the voice of Stefan Braunschmidt occasionally pierced by the punk-tinged, deliberately abrasive backing shouts of Christian Braunschmidt. Since 2023, the return of drummer Stephan Spilker has added a new dimension to HVRT’s sound – his technical skills leaving a distinct mark on »Cancerbloom«.
