Trier, Germany based doom/sludge metal outfit Coldspine presents their debut album, »Nullpunkt«, which was just released on December 13th, 2024 via Santa Diabla, Fucking Kill Records, 7Degrees Records and Violence In The Veins.

About Coldspine:

Coldspine is a four piece doom/sludge metal band from Trier, Germany that was founded in 2020. The band released their 6-song debut EP »Desolation« in cooperation with the labels Santa Diabla, Black Omega Recordings and Fatalism in June 2021 (formats: vinyl and digital). For the single »Peripheric Terror«, the band worked together with the well known video producing studio Chariot Of Black Moth.

In their short band history, Coldspine already shared the stage with bands like Crowbar, Primitive Man, Full Of Hell, Integrity, Kruelty, Gates To Hell or Nightmarer and gained some reputation. Coldspine adapt various elements in their music. This differs from main influences in the doom/sludge territory (Primitive Man, Grief, Iron Monkey, Ilsa, Conan and the NOLA-scene), to death metal (Coffins, Obituary, Bolt Thrower) and also some traditional approaches (Celtic Frost).

For Coldspine, the most important element for their song writing approach has always been heavy, catchy slow riffs as the foundation of their music. The combination with powerful vocals and meaningful lyrics, hinting at topics like misery, death and dispair create the style of music Coldspine is playing.

About »Nullpunkt«:

For their debut album »Nullpunkt«, Coldspine developed their individual style and sound of doom/sludge metal. The full length record consists of 9 tracks and has a total runtime of 46 minutes.

The songs differ from very slow Doom territory (title track »Nullpunkt«, »To The Ground«), sludgy mid-tempo groove (»Odd«, »Torture Rack«) to faster approaches, riffs and rhythms (»Among Serpents«, »Misery Routine«). Furthermore, the band puts some atmospheric elements into their music while also using clean guitar sounds and noise parts (»Regression«, »Minus«) as well as a dose of dissonance in their riffs. The vocals and lyrics (written in English and German) support the deep atmosphere of the music. The Album was mixed and mastered by Blackout Studio (Belgium).

This leads to a high dynamic range and variety while experiencing the record in its entirety. Overall, with »Nullpunkt« Coldspine offer a diverse, varied debut record in which the band adapts elements of multiple subgenres without losing their musical roots in the doom/sludge genre.

For the handpainted artwork, the band worked together with local artist Lisa Schroeder. The artwork represents the bleak, dismal character of the songs and especially the name/ title of the album »Nullpunkt«, which symbolizes being at your lowest point in a metaphoric way.
