Wolfram Zarnack’s critical view of the world is deeply rooted in his background in the punk/hardcore scene, where he has played in various bands throughout the years. At the same time, he has always had a strong affinity for, as he puts it, the progressive rock of the 1970s.

During the pandemic, »While We Escape« gradually took shape, piece by piece.

As a drummer, Wolfram Zarnack starts each of his songs with a rhythm:

“I try to create interesting beats, get the most out of them, and then build the songs around them.”

This approach can be felt throughout the entire album. The songs often begin slowly, with quiet verses gradually developing into powerful choruses, giving space to the clear and beautiful voice of guest vocalist Josefine Winter.

With its wide range of influences and musical landscapes, »While We Escape« is difficult to place within a single genre. According to Wolfram Zarnack, “post-progressive rock” is probably the closest description.

With »While We Escape«, pilotinthepicture shows just how quickly forty minutes can pass when you really take your time. The result is an intense, introspective and engaging musical journey for anyone searching for their next destination.
