Exdirectory is a young, five-piece rock band from Cologne. Founded in 2017, they have established themselves as an integral part of the underground scene in Cologne and NRW in recent years.

Musically, they oscillate somewhere in the triangle of psychedelic rock, stoner rock & progressive rock, without ever wanting to commit themselves completely. They are always on the lookout for new soundscapes – soundscapes that range from the sounds of the 60s and 70s to modern neo-psychedelia. Listeners can often expect a dense, interwoven sound with lush guitars, organ and synthesizer, playful solos, but also quiet and atmospheric songs reminiscent of krautrock or dream pop. There is always that little musical twist, the unexpected, which can always inspire you anew. Jamming and improvisation also play an important role for Exdirectory, and so the songs are constantly reinterpreted and expanded on stage. Even though the music is constantly fluctuating and has various sources of inspiration, comparisons can be drawn to great genre representatives such as Motorpsycho, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, All Them Witches or Colour Haze.

The musical creative phase of the first three years culminated in the release of two EPs in 2020 and 2021 – »Lime, Sand & Stone Vol. 1 & 2«. The last two years were then spent on the one hand with a series of concerts – including a tour of Germany in 2023 – but also with the development of new songs. Inspired by paintings by Max Ernst, André Breton & Yves Tanguy, the concept album »Forgotten Dreams, Forgotten Tales« was created, which was released digitally on 17 May 2024. In 8 songs and a running time of almost 60 minutes, the story of a dream journey is told, which deals with existential human questions, needs and fears. Musically, Exdirectory has audibly evolved, refined its own sounds and built an arc of tension that ranges from reduced, mystical parts to explosive psychedelic outbursts.

After an exclusive pre-release show in March at Club Subway in Cologne, Exdirectory played a co-headlining tour in Costa Rica in May 2024 with the band Madame Whiskey and singer-songwriter Paul on Bridges. Further concerts and festival appearances in Germany were on the program in the summer, including at Campen in Hain, the Trafostation 61 Festival and the NOpen Air Festival.
