Emperors Lair was founded in 2018 near Frankfurt, Germany when Luis, Djast and Simon noticed a disturbing lack of the music they love in their area. Since then, they’ve made it their mission to deliver those tunes to the world: Slow, grinding beats, heavy riffing and a fuzzy bass alternate with trippy psychedelic tunes and energetic melodies. The songs are completed with an occasional electronic sample or some atmospheric keyboard pads.

After releasing a 4-track EP in June 2019, the trio wanted to add another element to their music and therefore added vocalist Sebastian to the band. With this lineup, Emperors Lair have now completed their debut album »Dare Mighty Things«. With a mixture of reworked songs from the demo and new material, the record consequently continues the vision of the EP.

The band comments: “If you remember our demo EP (released 2019), you’ll notice that our debut album now features vocals. That’s because another band member joined our crew.

Sebastian and the rest of the band used the Covid-break to revise existing songs as well as work on new ones, before considering recording an album. We took adequate time for this, sometimes re-structuring or even dismissing existing songs. Sebastian shares our love for science fiction, old movies and all kinds of nerdy topics, which becomes obvious to anyone paying attention to the lyrics. For example »Dare Mighty Things« is the slogan of NASA’s Perserverance Mars mission. Just like our demo, our album features a short interlude as a sort of audible breather. On the demo, the interlude was named »Phobos«, now it’s named »Deimos«. If you know your astronomy, you might be able to spot a pattern here.

While we did everything ourself back when we recorded our demo, this time we sent our recorded tracks to Magnetic Audio for mixing and to Die Tonmeisterei for mastering. Cover and booklet artwork were designed by Miasma.”
