Atomic Peat is a power trio from Osnabrück, Germany. They released their debut album »Octophobia« in 2016 (new album will be released very soon). In their dense and punchy sound, they often flirt with the fuzz, but it is not a constant companion in their songs. Stoner rock? That would be too easy, but Atomic Peat don’t make it that easy – the musical preferences and influences of the three band members are too diverse to stick it into a box. Here, stoner rock collides with catchy hooks, grooving thick and sick riffs with a pinch of metal. Once you’ve heard one or two songs, you’ll be very surprised at what awaits you by song three, four, five….
FFO: Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden
About the songs:
»Primitive«: Just like »Use Your Tongue«, this track was recorded at DocMAKlang Studio in Osnabrück, Germany, way before the other songs. Back before the pandemic, when it felt like we needed 48-hour days to get everything done, I often wished I could live like a native in some beautiful, untouched paradise, far away from all the stress of modern life.
»Ignite«: You know that dude who acts like they got it all figured out, like everything’s perfect, trying to convince you how awesome their life is? Give them a hug and whisper in their ear: It’s okay not to have it all together and to not know everything. You can always stop and keep it real with yourself.
»Her Black«: This track is one of our faves from the album. We spent more time perfecting it than the others. It’s about this woman who seems kinda odd at first glance, but she’s beautiful in her own unique way and just doesn’t fit into society. Nobody really notices her until she’s suddenly gone, and you realize you missed out on knowing someone amazing.
»Use Your Tongue«: This song was written way before the pandemic. A lot of people crave companionship. Are you able to be your true self and feel free in your relationship, or are you just dreaming about how it could be?
»Demons Coming Home«: Your most annoying friends aren’t as pushy as your inner demons that you’re always trying to escape from. But those demons are just good friends with something to tell you. Stop, listen, and try to understand.
»Nature Boy«: This one’s super personal. When I was a kid, I was always outside – either in the woods, on my skateboard, or doing some other sport. My music teacher at school saw some special musical talent in me, so I got a piano and started lessons in classical music, but it wasn’t really my thing. Luckily, my brother hooked me up with some tapes of Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Uriah Heep, and Deep Purple. Those tapes changed everything. Especially one that had »Number Of The Beast« on side A and »Powerslave« on side B. I played them non-stop on my Walkman, day and night under the covers. But to this day, I’m still that nature kid who loves climbing rocks and exploring on my mountain and gravel bikes.
»Frenemy«: The friend who’s not really a friend. It can take ages to break free from these people. They use you to feel something because they can’t seem to feel empathy. They’re always creating drama, fighting a war with themselves, not you.
»A Part Of The Crown«: Some people drift so far from who they really are, they completely lose themselves. One day, they realize that the outward appearance in a world focused only on material things isn’t what life is about.
»The Way«: About the arrogance of people who think they can conquer the world and the hope that one day, they’ll realize we’re all connected and dependent on each other.
The album was recorded by Jörg at Soundlodge Studio.
