By Norse Music will release a digital deluxe edition of Gísli Gunnarsson’s acclaimed album »Úr Öskunni« on November 10, marking the third anniversary of the evacuation of his hometown, Grindavík. The anniversary edition expands the original album with the complete recording of »Úr Öskunni – Live in Grindavík«, a special concert presented during Iceland Airwaves 2025, as well as a professionally filmed concert video.

»Söknuður – Live in Grindavík« will be released as a single, accompanied by stunning live video, catching the magic of the moment it was performed last year. Gunnarsson explains:

“»Söknuður« was written when a few months had passed from the evacuation. At first there was a lot of uncertainty, shock, it all happened so quickly. But as time passed it became clear we weren’t going home anytime soon and those feelings turned into loss, grief, and a sense of somber nostalgia and yearning for the places I’ve known my whole life, many of which were no more.”

Aside from the song, Gísli Gunnarsson has also announced the screening of the concert at Bíó Paradís on November 6 as part of Iceland Airwaves and in collaboration with Reykjavík Music City. The screening will be followed by a special, intimate set by Gísli Gunnarsson, marking the anniversary of the evacuation of Grindavík.

Tickets are available HERE.

The performance took place in the church of Grindavík, in the town that had been left largely abandoned following the volcanic eruptions and the evacuation of its residents. A selected number of visitors attended the event, which was created first and foremost as an opportunity for the people of Grindavík – many of whom had been scattered across different communities since the evacuation – to come together in their hometown once again.

The resulting performance brings »Úr Öskunni« to life in an expanded arrangement, performed in its entirety with a full band and string quartet. The concert was filmed as a full professional production by Gaui H Pic and a team of four videographers, capturing the performance and the unique atmosphere inside the church.

“I’m really proud of how this came out. The energy in the room was absolutely amazing, and performing the whole thing live with a full band and string section felt incredible.” Gísli says.

Live album and full concert experience »Úr Öskunni – Live in Grindavík« out November 10th as part of digital deluxe anniversary edition.
