Daron Key is a guitarist and sound artist whose work is deeply rooted in his diverse background. Drawing inspiration from his home on the slopes of Mauna Loa, he crafts challenging and intricate soundscapes that blur the lines between structured improvisation and visceral sonic art. His solo work redefines the electric guitar, treating it as a tool for creating unique textures and abstract sound design, pushing the boundaries of what the instrument is capable of.

»On The Slopes« is Key’s recent EP, a collection of pieces inspired by his unique surroundings in Volcano, Hawai’i. The EP serves as an audible journey through the artist’s personal and geographical landscape.

»Pyrocasts«: This track is a sonic translation of Key’s environment. Inspired by the sounds of the Kīlauea Volcano, the piece captures the explosions, pops, and rumbling heard from his home in Volcano Village. It’s a raw, textural piece that embodies the powerful and unpredictable nature of the volcano.

»First Light«: A reference to the first rays of daylight that shine across the Hawaiian archipelago, a moment that holds significance in Hawaiian mythology as a creation story. The piece is a meditative and expansive soundscape, capturing the quiet power and beauty of this daily event. It is a contemplative reflection on beginnings and the natural cycles of the land.

FFO: Keiji Haino, Sunn O))), Divide and Dissolve, unconventional guitar work
