For The Pyres emerged in 2019 in Borås, Sweden from a shared drive to create fast-paced death metal infused with the influences that shaped them over the years. Their goal was simple but sincere: to write music that they genuinely enjoyed and that reflected their musical roots. The creative process was driven by instinct, allowing the music to flow naturally and ensuring an authentic, raw edge in their sound.

Influenced by old-school death metal and the distinctive HM2 sound, the band initially released two demos that leaned heavily into this sonic blueprint. However, for their debut album, they deliberately opted for a darker, more atmospheric tone – described as an “old, grayish brother from another mother demon.” Despite this shift, the HM2 sound remains a staple of their live shows, bringing that classic crushing intensity to the stage.

Their debut album, »At The Pyres Of Sin«, was just released on May 9th, 2025 via Gruesome Records. It’s a ferocious blend of fast-paced aggression and melodic intricacy, channeling influences from the early ’90s death metal scene (Edge Of Sanity, Unleashed, Dismember), ’80s thrash metal (Slayer, Sodom, Kreator), and even the melodic flair of classic hard ‘n’ heavy acts like King Diamond, W.A.S.P., and Candlemass.

In essence, For The Pyres have crafted a sound that sits comfortably alongside the legacies of Necrophobic, Entombed, Dismember, and Bloodbath – melding the blistering pace and brutality of death metal with a melodic edge. »At The Pyres Of Sin« is a punishing yet atmospheric record, blending relentless drumming, fierce melodic riffs, and moments of haunting, doom-laden introspection.

Toni Siira elaborates on the lyrical themes: “Our lyrics dive into the darker sides of humanity and spirituality, exploring themes like historical turmoil, religion, death, war, and plague. They are deliberately written to leave room for open interpretation, inviting listeners to find their own meaning within the songs. The narratives are often intentionally obscure, with stories presented in fragments and layers rather than straightforward tales. This approach draws you in, immersing you in the raw emotions and haunting moods.”
