The Budapest-based post-rock trio, BUZZ, is making waves with the release of an epic-length single!
BUZZ is a Hungarian instrumental post-rock trio formed in 2019, known for pushing the boundaries of conventional styles in all of their compositions. Their tingling, instrument-centric themes and expansive tracks have led many to compare them to the soundscapes of Kyuss, the masters of stoner rock, and the legendary Tool.
In 2022, with the release of their first full-length album, they became a prominent name in Hungary’s emerging post-rock scene and also gained recognition internationally. Their track »Inside« was featured on the “Best of 2022” list by WherePostRockDwells, one of the genre’s most renowned international distributors, alongside tracks by well-known bands like My Sleeping Karma, Russian Circles, Oh Hiroshima, and Lost in Kiev.
Released on August 16, 2024, their latest EP, »Back From Tartarus«, is an even bolder and more experimental work than their previous releases.
Apart from the drum recordings, the album was entirely self-produced by the band, including the mixing and mastering, similar to their previous album. The drum tracks were recorded at Hang Art Studio in Miskolc, under the direction of music producer and sound engineer Tamás Károly.

This nearly album-length EP, clocking in at 25 minutes, contains three tracks. The opening track, »Euphoria Scar« is a melodic piece with alternating meters that kicks off the record with an intense and upbeat riff before evolving into a more mysterious and cathartic experience. Soft interludes, changing rhythms, a floating solo, powerful bass and drum interplay, and an unusual guitar sound all contribute to the track’s completeness.
The second track, »Rainblur« takes on a much more dystopian tone, swaying the listener with intense riffs and almost danceable elements. After the melodic sections, a sudden and harsh breakdown steers the EP in a completely different direction, opening a new chapter. In this over-eight-minute post-rock track, the previously entirely instrumental BUZZ introduces a newsreader-like monologue that ushers listeners into a new emotional state. The monologue is delivered by Lotti Timári, vocalist of the post-punk band NANANA. The pulsating bass, intensifying drums, tapping guitar theme, and of course, Lotti’s contribution make the ending
even more unsettling.
The closing and title track, »Back From Tartarus« with its epic length, brings the EP close to an emotional rollercoaster. Much like the EP’s cover art, the stoner-inspired post-rock track evokes the infinite horizon of the desert. The dynamic themes summon the vision of sand dunes, a long-dried sea, a monumental but long-abandoned, decayed ship, and an endless road, placing the listener in a mood that feels lost in space and time.
The guys will present the EP »Back From Tartarus« live, which will be hosted on the rooftop of A38 ship on September 4, 2024.

Following the release of their 2022 album, the post-rock trio is set to showcase their new EP, »Back From Tartarus«, with epic-length tracks on the A38 Rooftop on 4th September. As the reflective autumn begins after a lively summer, the evening will be colored by earlier, impulsive compositions such as the internationally recognized »Inside« and »Thrown Out Of A Window In Calcutta«.
The evening’s atmosphere will be further enhanced by the post-rock themes of Last Seconds, a band formed in 2020, known for their finely structured instrumental tracks that will add flavor to the post-rock mood.
