Ian Blurton’s Future Now is set to release the forthcoming full-length album »Imperial Filth« via Pajama Party on October 23, 2026. Filled with riffs, charismatic melodies and a warm analogue sound, Future Now push their sound further than before.

On the production process, Blurton shares, “1/2 of »Imperial Filth« was recorded with no click, 80% of it was live off the floor using real British tube amps and no drum samples or AI.

We tried to go for a live feel as much as possible, left in a human touch and then overdubbed upon the bed tracks. This record has a bit more of a proggy feel than our last LP as we wanted to explore arrangements that lived outside the world of verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus.

We loved working with Daryl Smith and he really helped let us focus on the playing while he took care the sounds.”

The album’s opener, »Gallery Of Scars«, began as a rough demo composed by Blurton that is enhanced by Lee Rose (Ace Of Wands) who supplies the orchestral strings (violin/viola). “Lyrically the song deals with someone who holds court in a Gallery of Scars, collecting trophies of the pain they have caused. This is where the LP title comes from as the royals depicted in the lyrics are the »Imperial Filth«.”

»You Better Get Ready« is the band’s fastest and most thrash oriented track to date. Featuring heavy riffs from Liam Deak of Tumble, lyrically the song is about those who society has failed and how a little empathy goes a long way.

The rhythmic rock ‘n’ roll »Heaven Is A Long Way From Home« brings a moody atmosphere with compelling vocal harmonies, driving guitars, and powerful percussion. The song “Is about growing a life for yourself that doesn’t compromise who you are. There are heavy moments on this journey and you might have to travel the long way around to arrive where you want to be but the travel is part of the learning. This song continues the Future Now tradition of of overusing the number 7 and the letter S in the narrative.”

»When The Ends Don’t Meet« emerges with dark guitar leads and a building shadowy sound that ebbs and flows across the track. Lyrically, “this song deals with the concept of unlearning and discarding views and ideas that become out of date or useless as you grow. “Deeds for the digger” is a line about putting in the work required to shed antiquated ideals.”

The high-powered opening of »Death Becomes You« sees guitar lead and rhythms entwine to deliver a full, textural sound. It was inspired by the track »Death Walks Behind You« by Atomic Rooster. »Death Becomes You« questions, “Is Sleep a form of Death? Is Death a form of Sleep? Do we give away our waking hours to corrupt distractions that impede us from truly living? Are we living in the moment or is the future and the past occupying the now so we don’t see what is right in front of us?”

»Siren Of The Song« is ablaze with riffs and incorporates influences from the members’ favorite bands: Cheap Trick, Slayer, Voivod and ZZ Top. “This toon, probably the heaviest of the record, talks about UFOs, homelessness and how hiding something from view doesn’t make it disappear. In what way do you defuse a bomb that has not been detonated while trying to live a peaceful existence? Why do outside voices try and control the narrative of your life and what do they think they will gain by doing so?”

Marching drums bring a theatrical drama to »Settlers Forge«. “»Settlers« is about people who hide behind false pretenses and use chaos as a way of enriching themselves. There are references to the politics of power, wars built on the backs of everyday people and how history brings out the truth of situations once you able to truly understand the how and why of past events.” The track is steeped in an immersive atmosphere that carries an eerie undertone. The musical arrangement traverses through multiple styles and moods, from darker progressions to brighter, upbeat passages.

Kicking off with a catchy lead motif, »Don’t Fade The Day« descends into chugging rhythms with a slow and somber pace. As the track progresses, the energy shifts in »Don’t Fade The Day« leading to full wall of sound. “This one is pretty self explanatory, it’s about not wasting time in life, living it to the fullest and not letting outside agitators and uninvited distractions take over.” shares Blurton. “It suggests that we are the energy that creates our path in life and we shouldn’t allow any kind of vampire to bleed us.”

»The Jokes Write Themselves« arrives with a fiery up-beat spirit. High-powered percussion drives the momentum which is elevated further when the track shifts gears with a key change. It’s “a song about nature and how its power can cut through rock, mountain sides, etc and create a new pathway that didn’t exist before. How it’s been carving up the world since the beginning of time and when Man tries to do the same it can end in failure because we don’t always have the same ability.”

»Imperial Filth« ends with »Shadow Work«. This dynamic conclusion channels the sonic themes and style influences explored across the album into a catchy, guitar-led offering. Lyrically, “we have vultures coming from the shadows circling our creavitive pursuits and our lives looking for a way to monetize all our actions. Even in theis environment we pursue what we think is right and don’t let things stand in our way or find a way to work around barricades and blockades that life will throw up against us.”

Produced by Daryl Smith and Ian Blurton at Blurton’s very own ProGold Studios, Toronto. »Imperial Filth« was mixed by Brad Boatright at Audioseige and mastered by Daryl Smith at Chemical West. Special guests appearing on »Imperial Filth« include guitarist Liam Deak of Tumble and Lee Rose of Ace Of Wands performing strings. Cover art for »Imperial Filth« is by Lydia Sam Planetta and the layout design is by Louis Durand.
