White Hovse is a heavy/stoner rock band from the city of Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. The band was formed in 2018 with a festival band format, which we initially met as an extracurricular at school. Previously, the 6 of us were in the formation of Ropik (drums), Gilang (guitar), Rifky (guitar), Nizar (bass), Fahmi (keyboards), Chandra (vocals). That’s where the image of White Hovse began to expand.
At the end of 2019, the formation of White Hovse was reduced to five, Rifky (guitar) decided to leave White Hovse due to personal factors that made him unable to continue, replaced by Fahmi (keyboards) in the position of rhythm guitar, and has remained until now. When this new formation was formed, by coincidence we all liked underground music genres, be it metal, hardcore, punk, rock etc. And by mutual agreement we took a genre that was quite common in the ears of friends around us, namely the heavy/stoner rock genre, because at that time the stoner rock genre band format in our city had not yet become a trend. influenced by local bands such as The Slave, Lizzie, Jangar, Matiasu and The Sigit or foreign bands such as The Sword, Redfang, Kyuss, Mastodon, Orange Goblin, Sleep, Black Sabbath etc.
The reason we use the heavy/stoner rock genre is because this music genre is quite old-fashioned and unique for us young people. Apart from the uniqueness and fierceness of this music genre, we feel comfortable playing, listening and intend to continue working by making songs using this genre. Apart from that, especially from our hometown, Tasikmalaya, there are still quite a few bands that carry this genre.
In terms of musicality on the debut album »The Mighty One«, we prioritize varied guitar riffs with fuzzy sounds and rather heavy bass lines, followed by the dynamics of the music tempo which changes tempo in each song, and vocals that balance with the instruments as well as several additional effects that make the atmosphere in each song a bit heavy and gloomy. The creative process in the debut album is not far from the reference bands that each of us always listen to, including The Slave, Doctor Smoke, The Sword, Orange Goblin, Alice in Chains, Red Fang, Fu Manchu, Clutch, Belzebong, Ningen Isu, Tuskar, etc.
In terms of artwork, the album »The Mighty One« has a dystopian mix with classic sci-fi art created by Ferdian G Maulana (a local artist from Bandung and also guitarist/vocalist from band namely Hakkon). Visually, this artwork consists of several objects, including a giant creature holding a dagger and trident, a background of an obsolete or extinct civilization and the addition of a human being who is worshipping. For the coloring in this artwork, we deliberately requested dark colors which aim to represent the feelings and messages in each song.
