ExpiatoriA, the Italian heavy metal band from Genoa, are proud to announce the release of »A History In Three Acts«, a special album celebrating nearly 40 years of the band’s history. The release retraces the most significant milestones of ExpiatoriA’s career through songs specially rearranged by the current line-up and will be issued to coincide with the band’s appearance at the prestigious Luppolo In Rock Festival on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

The five tracks featured on the album, all rearranged by the current line-up, draw from the various phases of the band’s career. The journey begins with »Underground Forever«, the very first song ever recorded by ExpiatoriA in 1987, and concludes with an unreleased song, »The Incredible Worm Man«, the lead single from the band’s forthcoming album and one of the highlights of their live performances, clearly showcasing the influences that have always defined the Genoese outfit: King Diamond and Mercyful Fate.

Both tracks are further enhanced by the performance of Massimo Cottica, ExpiatoriA’s original vocalist and a legendary figure in the Italian underground heavy metal scene.

The album will be released by Diamonds Prod. as a limited-edition digipak CD on the same day as the band’s appearance at the Luppolo In Rock Festival, Saturday, July 18, 2026, where it will be available at a special price.

In addition to the aforementioned »Underground Forever« and »The Incredible Worm Man«, which serve as the chronological opening and closing points of the album, »A History In Three Acts« also includes »An Angel Came To Me«, originally featured on the 2010 EP »Return To Golgotha«, »The Librarian«, previously included on the »Crimson Evil Eyes« mini-CD, and a brand-new version of »Seven Chairs And A Portrait«, taken from the band’s debut full-length album »Shadows«.

“The three acts represent the three rebirths the band has gone through over the course of these nearly forty years. In this way, we wanted to pay tribute to every official ExpiatoriA release, from 1987 to the present day, while also looking toward the future, considering that »The Incredible Worm Man« is a brand-new song written by the current line-up and will be included on our next album.

Since the band’s return in 2018 and thanks to the release of »Shadows«, we have resumed performing live on a regular basis. The line-up is now solid and close-knit, a fact that enabled us to record this album by playing all together without a metronome and redubbing guitars and vocals later on to capture the authentic feeling of a band playing live. We are achieving many goals that once seemed out of reach. Being able to present this album during the Luppolo In Rock Festival is a milestone we would never have thought possible just a few years ago.

Having our original vocalist Massimo Cottica sing on two tracks is the perfect link between the past, present and future of ExpiatoriA,” state GB and Massimo Malachina, brothers and the band’s founders, bass player and guitarist respectively, who still lead ExpiatoriA today.
