The Cosmic Gospel | »Cosmic Songs For Reptiles In Love« is an aimless journey through distortions, love, psychedelic melodies, and despair
On Friday, December 15, »Cosmic Songs For Reptiles In Love« is released, marking the full-length debut of the Italian psych-rock/lo-fi project, The Cosmic Gospel. Preceded by the single/video for the opener, »It’s Forever Midnight«, in recent weeks, it will be available in digital and a limited edition deluxe CD from the Italian Bloody Sound label.
»Cosmic Songs For Reptiles In Love« is the first album by The Cosmic Gospel, a solo project by singer and multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Medina from Macerata. Composed, recorded, and produced independently during the summer of 2023, drawing inspiration from outtakes of previous bands and lost ideas, the album was born during a period of emotional transition. It expresses all the chaos and disruption that pain or joy can generate in one’s soul. These emotional rollercoasters unfold in the eight tracks where stories bordering on the surreal, cannibalism, love, and esotericism intertwine with psychedelic melodic openings and lo-fi sounds. In The Cosmic Gospel’s DNA, you can easily identify traces of The Beatles, Damon Albarn, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Spiritualized, Ty Segall, Beck, and Donovan.
The album will be presented live at the release party on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at La Serra in Recanati (Italy). The Cosmic Gospel will celebrate the release of »Cosmic Songs For Reptiles In Love« with its audience.
Track By Track | The Words Of The Cosmic Gospel:
1. It’s Forever Midnight | This is the opening track of the album and one of the most furious and seemingly cheerful in the tracklist. In reality, it conceals a story starring the old Mr. Goose, a rugged scoundrel who spies on young girls from his window and tries to lure them into his house of horrors.
2. The Richest Guy On The Planet Is My Best Friend | It narrates a psychedelic journey through the cosmos in the rich friend’s spaceship. The rich friend lacks affection, as everyone wants to get close to him only for his money, while he seeks a genuine companion for delirious travels.
3. Core Memory Unlocked | It describes the exact moment of boundless love’s birth: a memory that will remain forever uncorrupted and immovable in the mind.
4. Hot Car Song | Despite its title, it’s simply about a vagina.
5. Psychrolutes Marcidus Man | A man who has lost all self-esteem feels like the Psychrolutes marcidus, commonly known as a blobfish, one of the ugliest animals in the world.
6. The Demon Whispers | It depicts how a demon can slowly take possession of the mind and body of a person abandoned by love and then acquire great visceral and primal power.
7. Wrath And Ghosts | This is the only instrumental track on the album, but it serves as a continuation of the previous track, where the demon no longer communicates in a humanly understandable language but only through sweet sounds of despair (or perhaps liberation).
8. I Sew Your Eyes So You Don’t See Me How I Eat Your Heart | A sadistic love relationship that leads to cannibalism.
Gabriel Medina is a young Italian musician who has been active in various local bands for years (including Hapnea and Bruxa). The Cosmic Gospel (a name inspired by the animated series ‘The Midnight Gospel’) represents his musical journey with no destination, involving distorted drums, synths, fuzz, love, psychedelic melodies, and despair.
