Norwegian black ‘n’ roll collective Kvelertak premiere new music video/short film for the track »Morild« taken from their fifth studio album, »Endling«, out on September 8th, 2023 via Rise Records / Petroleum Records.
The band comments: “Morild is the 4th music video director Fredrik S. Hana has made for us. It exists somewhere between a music video and a short film, and it took over 6 month shooting the thing, painstakingly making everything by hand, from stop-motion animation to miniature work and practical effects.”
Kvelertak is the gold standard in punked-up, black metal-adjacent, classic rock-worshipping extreme music. The band described by Revolver as “blackened rock and roll party beasts,” with their triple guitar harmonies and heaps of lyrics written in their native Norwegian, is truly unlike any other.
Drawing deeply from local traditions and folklore of the non-fantasy variety, the evocative songs on the band’s fifth album, »Endling«, tell spellbinding stories of elemental wonder. »Endling« brims with catchy, straight-to-the-point hard rock tunes, as well as some of their most ambitious instrumentation. Kvelertak sounds bigger and more creative than ever, even if this period remains as unpredictable as every other. Kvelertak is an “Endling” in itself, the last of their kind. About to break up at any given moment, total collapse and catastrophe are always right around the corner. But for now, they’re still here. Like a constant supernova at its most destructive and brightest, Kvelertak has never been better.
“On »Endling«, we tell the stories of the extinct and dying men and women of Norway. Old and new myths, culture, and rituals come to life – the folklore that doesn’t fit a TV series concept. Vikings and trolls are for television. This is the real deal,” says guitarist Vidar Landa.
»Endling« is at once the band’s most straightforward and ambitious work yet. The band tracked most of the songs live in the studio, and only one to a click, resulting in a raw and organic feel. The riffs and tones are as varied as Kvelertak’s audience will expect, with crackling immediacy and spirit throughout. There’s also new instrumentation, like piano and synthesizer, layered via overdubs.
New album »Endling« is out September 8 via Rise Records / Petroleum Records.
