Las Nubes, the band from Miami backed by none other than Iggy Pop and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), return today, June 14, with their new album, »Tormentas Malsanas«.

Summer in Miami has two extremes: at one moment it’s sunny and ridiculous hot; and the next, there are hurricane winds and torrential rains. This polarity tends to control people’s moods. In Las Nubes, a band formed by Ale Campos (guitarist for Iggy Pop) and Emile Milgrim, they cope with it in the best way possible thanks to their significant role in the local music scene.

Their previous studio album, »SMVT« (2019, Sweat Records Records), earned them the title of “best band of 2019” by the newspaper Miami New Times, and major media outlets such as Brooklyn Vegan, Rolling Stone, Post-Trash, and NPR began to pay attention to them.

After various tours in the United States and Mexico, where they shared the stage with bands like Shannon and The Clams, Jens Lekman, Sheer Mag, Torche, El Shirota, and the legendary Iggy Pop (with whom they formed the first all-female lineup of the Stooges), they released the double single »Enredados« / »Drop In« in 2023 through Ecstatic Peace / Daydream Library, the label of Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), gaining airplay in Europe on platforms like BBC, Idioteq, Ruta 66, and Radio 3, where they have been frequently played on Turbo 3.

Today, June 14, Las Nubes return with »Tormentas Malsanas«, their second studio album released through Spinda Records (ES), Sweat Records Records, and Godbless America (US), in which Ale and Emile present a total of 10 songs that navigate between garage pop, shoegaze, dream pop, and alternative rock; all with meticulous production by Jonathan Nuñez (Torche). This new album was preceded by the singles »Would Be« and »Pesada«. With a sound that aligns them directly with Pixies, Lush, Hole, or Melvins, they have managed to catch the attention of media outlets such as KEXP, Under The Radar Magazine, Indie Rocks!, Mondo Sonoro, Rockzone, La Habitación 235, A tres bandas, The Chapel Radio, El Ecualizador, Bienvenido a los 90, and dodMagazine.

»Tormentas Malsanas« is released today, June 14, through Spinda Records (in the United States, it’s released via Sweat Records Records and Godless America), under the umbrella of the ‘Noisy Series’, alongside bands like Fin del Mundo (AR), Adelaida (CL), and Battosai (ES). It is available on CD and vinyl, in a limited edition of 300 copies in marbled green, which can be purchased here.

The release of »Tormentas Malsanas« will be accompanied first by a series of launch concerts in Florida and, second, by an extensive tour along the West Coast of the United States. The band’s plans include visiting Europe for the first time in the winter of 2025.
