Liquid Pennies dive into introspective self-discovery on »Tapered Scape«
Liquid Pennies, the genre-defying psych rock trio, are thrilled to release their latest single »Tapered Scape« ahead of their highly anticipated album »Fore«, set to drop on July 25th, 2025. Known for their dynamic fusion of psych rock with elements of post-punk, indie rock, and alternative, the band continues to push musical boundaries with »Tapered Scape«, a track that hints at the expansive range of genres explored on the new album.
»Tapered Scape« is an electrifying blend of psych rock textures, electro rhythms, and heavy indie rock sensibilities. With a wall-of-sound guitar crescendo, hypnotic basslines, analog synth sub-frequencies, and echo-entrenched vocals from frontman, guitarist, and synth player Chas Binns, the song takes listeners through a sonic maze of tension and release. The track is introspective, delving into themes of self-discovery and personal transformation, while the band’s signature atmospheric elements create a dream-like quality that bookend the song.
Despite its roots in psych rock, »Tapered Scape« embraces influences from multiple genres, including post-punk, indie rock, and electronic music, utilizing electronic drums and trading guitar for synthesizer at the beginning and end of the track. The song’s hypnotic groove and mood-driven structure are emblematic of the band’s desire to push the boundaries of what “psychedelic” can mean, incorporating a range of sounds from darker, more experimental tones to punchy, driving rhythms.

“With this track, we wanted to reflect the uncertainty and clarity of change,” Binns explains. “It’s a journey through the turbulence of personal transformation, all wrapped in layers of sound that both disorient and ground you.”
The song sets the stage for »Fore«, an album that explores not only the core of Liquid Pennies’ psych rock roots but also ventures into a myriad of genres, including electronic, folk, doom, ambient, and punk/hardcore. Fore is a record that pulls from the band’s vast influences and molds them into a cohesive whole, offering listeners a rich, multifaceted experience.
With »Sight Skewer«, Liquid Pennies continue to blur the lines between genres, fusing their signature psych rock sound with post-punk, indie rock, and elements of ambient and electronic music. The track, with its haunting, atmospheric instrumentation and hypnotic rhythm, explores the fragility of perception and the disorienting effects of trying to make sense of the world in a time of uncertainty.
The song opens with shimmering synths and eerie guitar riffs, slowly building into a brooding, propulsive groove as Binns’ reverberated vocals guide listeners through a maze of layered sound. »Sight Skewer« stands out with its intricate arrangements and experimental sound design, showcasing the band’s willingness to push their sonic boundaries into darker, more atmospheric territory.
“»Sight Skewer« is about seeing things clearly, but also recognizing that perception is subjective,” says Binns. “It’s about the tension between seeing things as they are and the distortion caused by our own internal landscapes.”
“»Ready Tide« is about surrendering to transformation,” says the band. “It’s the push and pull between resistance and acceptance, told through a wave that never breaks.”
Built on warped analog synths, pumping bass, and a pulsating groove of a vintage drum machine coupled with live drums, »Ready Tide« immerses listeners in Liquid Pennies’ unique brand of neo-psychedelia. Both lush and raw, the track showcases the band’s ability to blend vintage tones with a modern edge, while carving out a distinct space of their own.
»Tapered Scape«, »Sight Skewer«, »Ready Tide« and the upcoming LP »Fore« were recorded with longtime collaborator Ryan Boesch who engineered drums, mixed, and mastered the album, with Binns recording the rest of the instrumentation, vocals, and extra accouterments like analog-tape experimentation. No stranger to a vast array of sounds, Boesch has worked with a plethora of artists including St. Vincent, Eels, Melvins, The Flaming Lips, and Foo Fighters. The album will be one of the first releases on his brand new label Threat Collection.

Formed in St Petersburg, Florida in 2018, Liquid Pennies have steadily built a reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative bands in the psych rock scene since their debut album Floods (2020). Their unique blend of psych rock, indie, post-punk, and alternative has resonated with fans and critics alike, and their evolving sound has kept audiences on their toes throughout their career.
With the release of »Distant Dawn« (2021) and »Any Wonder« (2023), Liquid Pennies continued to refine their sound, experimenting with darker, more atmospheric textures while maintaining their energetic, groove-heavy approach. The 2023 EP »A Wake-Ending« further expanded their sonic palette with experimental compositions that pushed the boundaries of the genre.
In addition to their core trio lineup, which includes Chas Binns (vocals, guitar, synth), Tysonious Mink (bass), and Pierson Whicker (drums), Liquid Pennies made waves in 2023 with the release of singles Doom Doubt and Name Dropper, featuring a double-drummer setup. Now, with Fore, the band returns to their classic trio format, exploring new territories with a sound that incorporates their ever-expanding influences.
