Dutch death metal legion Mouflon return with their third full-length album »Eros & Thanatos«, available now via Iron Fortress Records on CD and digital formats.

Named after the opposing forces of life and death, desire and destruction, »Eros & Thanatos« explores the battle between creation and annihilation through themes of war, mortality, physical transformation, instinct, and sacrifice. From the kamikaze-inspired opening assault of »The Divine Wind« to the Mishima-influenced meditation on beauty and death found in »Sun And Steel«, the album binds these ideas into a single work where violence, purpose, and oblivion exist in constant tension.

Across eight tracks, the band deliver a feral and unrestrained strain of death metal rooted in the foundations of Autopsy, Bolt Thrower, Gorefest, Asphyx, and Entombed, forging an identity entirely their own as they shift between surging tremolo-picked riffing, hulking power-chord grooves, and hammering percussion, balancing wild aggression with brief moments of melody before plunging back into total devastation.

Speaking on the first single »The Divine Wind«, vocalist RJ said: “As the opening track of the record, »The Divine Wind« serves as a defining statement of intent and one of the overarching themes of the album. The sound of death from above. Creep inside the mind of the special attack unit as they mentally prepare to die. The last defense. Loyalty and honor to the death.”

About »Sun And Steel«, RJ comments: “»Sun And Steel« is heavily influenced by the book of the same name by Japanese author Yukio Mishima. Written as a celebration of his life and work, the song explores Mishima’s transformation through bodybuilding, physical action, and death, concluding that aesthetic beauty can only be preserved by destroying the body before it decays with age. The book became a blueprint for the worldview that culminated in his ritual suicide in 1970. The lyrics fit perfectly with the concept of »Eros & Thanatos«, connecting the life drive and the death drive.”

Formed in 2012, Mouflon have shared the stage with Autopsy, Napalm Death, Blood Incantation, Possessed, Gatecreeper, Asphyx, Massacre, Unleashed, and Full of Hell, alongside appearances at Stonehenge Festival, Pitfest, Drachten Death Fest, and Extreme Assault Fest.

»Eros & Thanatos« was recorded and mixed by Ronny Kessels at Overdose Audio, mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and performed by Mouflon. Artwork was created by Joost de Bruijn, with additional collages by Robin John and logo design by Wim de Vries.
