Born and raised along the banks of the Neuse River in North Carolina, Matt C. White is no stranger to the folklore of the Deep South that animates his songwriting. His musical style is groove driven, backwoods Tom Foolery touched by dark, southern soul.
Growing up in rural North Carolina, Matt C. White received his first guitar at age 10 and dedicated much of his childhood to mastering the swampy blues riffs on which he was raised. During his teenage years, White’s tastes were expanded via fixation on alternative and progressive rock groups such as Soundgarden, The Mars Volta, Hum and Mastodon.
Upon moving to New York in 2011, White infiltrated the Brooklyn music scene performing at open mics. The formation of his first group, Dead Seconds, was soon to follow. At the helm of the popular blues rock outfit, White saw the band through the release of two albums, »The Grain« (2015) and »The Ground« (2018). Shortly after, White’s next project Grandpa Jack was born out of his and his bandmates’ shared love for fuzzy, psychedelic rock. Quickly becoming a staple in the Brooklyn’s underground rock scene, the group released a self-titled EP in 2018 to a loyal fanbase, followed by »Staggered Steps« (2019) and »Trash Can Boogie« (2020). Their most recent release, »GRITS« (2022), received acclaim in popular rock press publications including Red Rock Magazine, Big Takeover, Bands Do BK and more.
White’s new album, »Punishers«, is released May 2, 2023 to all major streaming platforms.
