Clouds Taste Satanic release their ninth album on March 1, 2024. Titled »79 A.E.«, the new record is the score to a post-apocalyptic film of the same name that has yet to be made. Following the recording of their last album, »Tales Of Demonic Possession«, the band was contacted by Texas screenwriter and filmmaker Smith and asked to score the soon to be filmed »79 A.E.« – a tale of Doom from our Days of Extinction. After reading the script (an Asteroid has struck the Earth and “79 Years After” the presumed “Extinction” of all mankind, survivors are doing what survivors do), the band agreed to score the film and got to work coming up with ideas and creating themes.

“After the density and scope of our last record, we wanted to make an album that felt more open and spatial,” explains guitarist Steve Scavuzzo. “Still heavy but with plenty of room to breathe. Luckily this concept was perfect for a film score.”

Fast forward 6 months to June 2022 when it became apparent that the screenplay was not going to become an actual film any time soon. Rather than shelve the project and move on, the band doubled down on what they were already working on to create the score for a film they imagined rather than saw. While others might have viewed the circumstances as a setback, this new approach opened up creative possibilities that an actual film with a set pace and tone might not have provided.

So here we are. »79 A.E.« is the score to a post-apocalyptic film that may or may not exist in the future. The nature of the instrumental music of Clouds Taste Satanic has always demanded a certain level of imagination. Imagination is key when you don’t have a singer laying out the concepts for you. With the score to a film that provides visual cues, once again someone else is doing the heavy lifting. While imagining a film that doesn’t exist may seem like a difficult task, imagining a post-apocalyptic world should come naturally to anyone who has been to the movies. This album just happens to be the Clouds version of that movie. Enjoy…

Clouds Taste Satanic was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 2013 with an idea to meld the minimalist and heavy approach of bands such as Sleep and Earth with the instrumental and heavy approach of bands such as Pelican and Bongripper. The band’s debut album, »To Sleep Beyond The Earth«, joined those influences into one 40-minute song that established their place in the doom/stoner community. In every year since, the band has released a new record and has taken great pains to both refine and expand their sound to reach beyond the confines of what is typically considered doom-style heavy metal.

The band has graced the stages of many festivals over the last several years including Desertfest NYC, the Esbjerg Fuzztival and The Maryland Doom Fest and will be playing Desertfest London in May of 2024.
