New Zealand alternative rock quartet Gnarling premiere debut single and music video »Animal«

Wellington, New Zealand based alternative rock band Gnarling premiere their debut single and music video »Animal«, released this Saturday, October 10th, 2026.

»Animal« is now available on Spotify and all major streaming services!

Gnarling is an alt-rock band hailing from Wellington, New Zealand.

Formed in mid-2025, the relatively new group features veterans of the local shoegaze, post-rock & doom scenes, including members of Lizard Prom, Into Orbit, and Opium Eater.

The new track, »Animal«, is a song that was written a decade ago and meant for Tyley’s previous band Lizard Prom, but never quite came to be. Now, resurrected by Gnarling, »Animal« has taken on a new life as their atmospheric, agressive and thematically confronting introduction to the world.

The single is accompanied by an psychedelic homemade video featuring knock-off Sylvanian families dolls, shot entirely from under a coffee table in the lounge of Tyley’s Wellington home.

Recorded by Gnarling at Sidlaw Studios in May 2026.
Mixed by Ricky Hunt.
Video directed and edited by Ian Moir, with camera work by Sarah Lyne.

Gnarling is:
Tyley Burkin – Vocals & Guitar
Sam Leamy – Guitar
Paul Stewart – Bass
Ian Moir – Drums
