Tierra del Fuego, Chile based heavy rock, doom and folklore band Sebastargo presents their debut album, »La Hiel en la Techumbre«, which will be officially released on October 1st, 2026.
Sebastargo pioneer guitar melodies with local history, mythology, and the freezing landscapes of the icy fjords. Their work deeply honors the ancestral life in the extreme south of Patagonia.

Sebastargo // Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic, Chile
“The gall upon the roof” stems from a childhood memory. When I was a boy, I would often go and watch my uncles slaughter animals before a family festivity in Tierra del Fuego, Chile. Many times I waited for that moment when, during the butchering, they would take out the gall and throw it onto the roof of my grandmother’s house. When I asked why they did it – though I already knew the answer – I would always hear: “The elders used to say that doing so brings good fortune.”
This album, to a great extent, encompasses the settings, accounts, and texts that have accompanied me since that childhood.
Memory ought to be the cornerstone of our projection into history as a mestizo people. And in that sense, it is fitting that we are accompanied by popular narrative, by official and unofficial history, by what is found in history books, in period newspapers, in compilations of historical events, in legend and in myth. Myth is neither falsehood nor truth. It is simply myth.
Sebastargo is a project of sonic exploration and historical memory deeply rooted in the oral tradition, folklore, and historical accounts of Chilean Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Far from superficial folk embellishments, the project bridges raw, saturated, mid-tempo guitar riffs with traditional southern rhythms, transitioning between 6/8 and 4/4 time signatures.
Departing from extreme metal standards, Sebastargo prioritizes classic song structures, acoustic guitar interludes, and absolute vocal clarity in Spanish, placing narrative and historical prose at the absolute center of the work.
Historical & ethnographic foundations:
»Sirena«: Inspired by a testimonial account by Rosa Levicoy (Chiloé) regarding an encounter with a siren, where the entity represents sorrow and isolation rather than seduction.
»Minkiol«: Based on the shamanic journey (xo’on) documented by Martin Gusinde during his first expedition to Tierra del Fuego in the early 1900s.
»Los cuatro cielos« (inc. »Las lluvias del cielo negro”): Based on Selk’nam cosmology recorded by Gusinde and Anne Chapman regarding the four chromatic directions and the silent realm of Temáukel.
»El vuelo del jilguero« (inc. “Las flechas y sus ojos«): A reinterpretation of Yaghán oral history regarding the Stone Man, female rebellion, and transformation into goldfinches along the southern channels.
»Carneadores«: Echoing the rise, dignity, and collective epic of the Federación Obrera de Magallanes (FOM) in the early 20th century.
»Prisionero«: Engaging with Kawésqar oral traditions regarding spirits that dominate the sea and weather (e.g., Ayayema), where horror lies in obedience.
