Oakland, California, heavy rock trio Phantom Hound has teamed with Ghost Cult Magazine to share an exclusive early listen of their upcoming album, »From Boom Town To Ghost Town«, due out later this week from Glory or Death Records. The band also has an upcoming live run, “Gold Fever Tour”, in October. Find the dates below.

“I’m incredibly pleased to welcome y’all to the advance streaming premiere of our sophomore record »From Boom Town To Ghost Town«. I invite you into a smokey saloon here on the Oakland waterfront to take a seat, have a drink, and listen to a story of wealth, greed, & ruin that has long since defined the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area.
Having grown up alongside the ghosts of the gold rush, I’ve watched closely as my hometown boomed into the most expensive place to live in the United States, only to have its back broken by the pandemic and fall into a state of chaos, much like it did 175 years ago at the rise of the goldrush and the devastation of the 1906 earthquake.

Earlier this year, we signed with Glory or Death Records to bring this story to life. A decision we couldn’t be happier with. Their steadfast support has been key in drip-feeding each new single and music video this summer with nothing but the utmost dedication to the record, and in addition, booking our West Coast support tour this fall.
We’re incredibly stoked to release this monster into the world and can’t thank everyone enough for their support during our summer campaign. The response to the new sound has been incredible. Ghost Cult Magazine writes: “In addition to the band’s signature fuzzed-out grooves, wailing lead guitars, and sick vocals; the album is their most complete release, so far… and the band will soon kick off a west coast run of tour dates.”
Formed in 2013 as “Hound”, the original trio recorded and released »The Ether« EP in 2016, focusing on desert rock-driven riffs and grungy blues licks. They explored multiple tunings and influences with a refreshed lineup, including doom metal, blues rock, and classic rock, and in 2018, they officially expanded the name to “Phantom Hound”. With producer Chris Hughes, they collectively focused on self-releasing their debut album, »Mountain Pass«, in 2020 on their in-house label Devil Blues Records. While promoting »Mountain Pass« during the pandemic, they toured the Pacific Northwest in 2021 and the Southwest in 2022.
They partnered again with producer Chris Hughes from Stereo Lunch in 2023, drawing inspiration from modern heavy psych lords and mixing them with core inspirations in the legends of grunge and sludge worlds for recording their second full-length, »From Boom Town To Ghost Town«, at Bird & Egg in Richmond, CA. Justin Weis of Trakworx completed the album mastering.
The extensive cover and inner artwork of the »From Boom Town To Ghost Town« album, as well as the poster for Phantom Hound’s upcoming Gold Fever Tour, was created by Diogo Soares. The new album will be released on Glory or Death Records on September 18, 2024.
